ZGF Architects promoted to associate Carlos Bres, Brian Geller, Sara Howell, Heather Karch, Seamus Kelly, Justin Rabe, Jill Sandnes, Mike Steinberg, Chloe Tomar and Jou-yi Wang. The architecture, planning and interior design firm said it is developing the company from within. ZGF has offices in Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C.
WSP Flack + Kurtz named Tom Marseille managing director of its Seattle office, effective Jan. 1. He is taking over from Henry Di Gregorio, who has been with the engineering firm for more than 43 years and will retain a leadership role focusing on client service and engineering. Marseille joined the Seattle office in April as senior vice president. Prior to that, he was managing principal and practice leader for Stantec Consulting's Seattle office. He is an author, speaker and advocate for green buildings, and has been the mechanical design principal on award-winning green building projects. He is overseeing GSA USACE Federal Center South in Seattle and the Shinsegae corporate office tower and mixed-use project in South Korea. WSP Flack + Kurtz also has offices in New York City, San Francisco, Boston, Las Vegas, Houston and Washington, D.C.
J.A. Brennan Associates hired Greg Murphy as a senior associate and Kristen Moreau as a landscape designer. Murphy has 16 years of urban design, park and public infrastructure experience. He will work on the Alaskan Way Viaduct/Seawall and other park and urban design projects. Moreau will provide landscape design for park and habitat projects. The Seattle firm provides landscape architecture and planning.
Lane Powell made several promotions in the Seattle and Portland offices. In Seattle, Jennifer Beyerlein, Laura Morse, Dawn Spratley and Janis White have been elected shareholders. Beyerlein concentrates on construction litigation and professional malpractice defense and is LEED accredited. Morse concentrates on claims of wrongful discharge and employee benefits, as well as discrimination. Spratley focuses on estate and trust litigation, probate, and domestic and international estate planning. White focuses on complex commercial litigation. In Portland, Peter Hawkes has been elected shareholder and Shawn Lindsay as been named counsel to the firm.
The National Federation of Independent Business, along with Solveras Payment Solutions, a payment processing company, named Steve Neighbors of Everett its 2010 NFIB/Solveras Small Business Champion of the Year for a 13-state region. Neighbors is the chairman and a co-owner of Terra Staffing Group in Everett.
Voting delegates at the Washington Farm Bureau unanimously re-elected Steve Appel, a wheat and barley grower from Whitman County, as president in 2011. Appel has served as WFB President since 1994. Aaron Golladay from Grant County was elected to his first term as first vice president for legislation. Delegates re-elected Mike LaPlant of Grant County to his second term as the second vice president for policy development.
Pat O'Malley has been selected by his peers to serve as presiding judge of Pierce County District Court, beginning in January. The presiding judge is elected every two years. O'Malley has served on the district court bench for eight years.

Seattle-based Global Diving & Salvage opened a new facility in northeast Houston. The property has 2,000 square feet of office space and 20,000 square feet of warehouse space. The new branch will allow Global to support its existing and future offshore energy clients in the Gulf of Mexico. Bruce Humberstone is manager of the company's gulf operations.
Employees of Canyon Creek Cabinet Co. in Monroe donated more than 500 pounds of food and nearly $4,000 to the Sky Valley Food Bank. For the past 10 years, the company has conducted its own food drive to benefit needy families in Snohomish County. The most recent donation was made in time for Thanksgiving.
David Basson, CEO of Seattle-based apparel design and manufacturer Greensource Organic Clothing Co., is retiring Dec. 31. John Flynn, vice president of design and development, and Brady Hill, vice president of marketing, will lead the company beginning in January. Patty Barile, customer service manager, and Mindy Walenceus, production manager, will continue as five percent minority shareholders. Flynn has been with the company since 2004 and Hill since 2005.
King County Executive Dow Constantine appointed newly elected King County Councilmember Joe McDermott as a south county representative to the Sound Transit Board of Directors. McDermott succeeds Jan Drago, who was appointed to represent the 8th Council District following Constantine's election as King County Executive. McDermott was elected to the office in November.
Bellevue-based Symetra Financial Corp. said two executives plan to retire at the end of December: Jennifer Davies, senior vice president of enterprise development, and Troy Olson-Blair, vice president and chief information officer. Davis has worked with the company for 18 years in a variety of roles. Olson-Blair spent the last 30 years at Symetra and was named chief information officer in 2004.
Cedarbrook Lodge, a Northwest hotel, said its Culinary Director Roy Breiman and Executive Chef Mark Bodinet are founding board members of two new food organizations: the Puget Sound Regional Council's Regional Food Policy Council and Cascade Harvest Coalition's Forest-to-Table program. In his role with the RFPC, Breiman will help lead efforts related to equitable food access. Breiman and Bodinet are serving on the board of the Cascade Harvest Coalition program.
