Pape Machinery in Kelso is second worksite in the state to be recognized for safety through the new safety through achieving recognition together program. Administered by the Department of Labor and Industries, the START program is modeled on the federal safety & health achievement recognition program. Both programs recognize companies with exemplary safety records that have demonstrated a commitment to workplace safety. Pape will receive a plaque commemorating the Start recognition at a ceremony in April

Point B, a Seattle management consulting firm, named Mike Pongon chief executive officer. Pongon has worked for the organization for 11 years and was chief operating officer. Point B also launched an investment arm, called Point B Capital, to complement its consulting. Point B Capital will service the firm's 300 clients in 27 industries.
As part of its corporate reorganization following the move of Seabourn to Seattle, Holland America Line promoted Beth Bodensteiner to vice president of revenue management and product marketing for Holland America Line and expanded the responsibilities of Linda Springmann, vice president of Alaska marketing and sales. Bodensteiner joined the firm in 2002 and was previously director of cruise marketing. Springmann was a vice president and has 20 years of experience in the industry.
Jonathan DeMella, an attorney with Seattle-based law firm Oles Morrison Rinker & Baker, has been promoted to partner. DeMella's expertise includes assisting contractors in disputes with the federal government and counseling clients in construction and government contract law.
Evergreen Hospital Medical Center has been ranked among the top five percent of hospitals and named a Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence. The award was based on a study of mortality and complication rates by HealthGrades, an independent health care ratings company. Nearly 5,000 hospitals were included in the study. Evergreen Hospital is one of three hospitals in Washington to receive the award.

The Auction of Washington Wines hired Sherri Swingle as executive director. Swingle will oversee events. She has 15 years experience and was recently an event producer for the Savor the Central Coast event in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The auction is a philanthropic organization of the Washington wine industry.
Seattle-based Calypso Medical Technologies, a developer of technology used to track tumors, named Edward Vertatschitsch president and chief executive officer. Vertatschitsch joined Calypso Medical in 2003 and has served as the interim CEO since July of 2010.
Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn named Vincent Kitch acting director of the Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs. Kitch has worked in the arts for nearly 20 years, and most recently was the cultural arts program manager for the city of Austin. His appointment is subject to City Council confirmation. His first day is April 4.
Fisher Communications hired Justin Lewis as director of research. Lewis worked at The Nielsen Co. as an account executive managing projects for 60 television stations and 50 advertising agencies.
Glenn Gioseffi, director of Marcus & Millichap's Capital Corp. office in Seattle, arranged a $5.32 million refinancing loan for a 75-unit apartment property in Kenmore. The loan is for 10 years, amortized over 30 years with a fixed interest rate of 4.12 percent. The LTV is 65 percent. “We are seeing people move toward loans that can be locked at the start,” Gioseffi said.

Seattle-based Security Properties bought a 276-unit affordable apartment property in Thornton, Colo., called The Reserve at Thornton. Security acquired the general partner position and a majority of the economic interests from Trammell Crow Residential. It has a swimming pool, fitness center, business center and playground, and occupancy is 97 percent, Security said. The company has three other apartment properties in Denver.
