Washington State University

William Andrefsky Jr., professor, graduate coordinator and former chair of the Department of Anthropology, has been named the new dean of the Washington State University Graduate School effective April 1, 2013. Andrefsky, an anthropologist, worked as the director of the Center for Northwest Archeology at WSU from 1999-2000 and also served as interim associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts for that same period. He also served previously as director of WSU's Museum of Anthropology.

Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt

Portland-based Law firm Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt announced Christopher Howard, a shareholder in the firm's Seattle office, as the 2013 recipient of the John L. Schwabe Client Service Award. The Schwabe firm presents the award to an attorney in the firm who goes “above and beyond” in his or her dedication and service to firm clients.

Tilth Producers of Washington

Seattle-based Tilth Producers of Washington named Michele Catalano as executive director. Catalano built the Pike Place Market Basket CSA into one of the largest not-for-profit cooperative Community Supported Agriculture programs in the nation, and most recently as director of sales and community relations for Full Circle Farm. Tilth Producers of Washington is a statewide, non-for-profit educational and advocacy organization who promotes ecologically sound, economically viable and socially equitable farming practices.

VIA Architecture

VIA Architecture's Seattle office has hired Jim Bodoia as a director, Bethany Madsen and Guy de Lijster as architects, and James Underwood as an intern architect. Bodoia has more than 40 years of experience that includes high-density housing and urban place-making. He previously was a principal at Mithun. Madsen has experience in sustainable design, historic preservation and transit architecture. She previously worked at LMN, The Miller Hull Partnership and Mithun. De Lijster specializes in transit architecture, including multi-modal facilities, bus rapid transit systems, subway stations, and high speed and light rail stations. He previously worked at IBI Group and Otak. Underwood has experience in residential, infrastructure and commercial projects. He was with Schemata Workshop. VIA provides architecture, infrastructure, planning, and community building, and also has an office in Vancouver, B.C.

Otak

Otak hired Michael Fadden as a civil engineering designer in its Kirkland office. He has experience in roadway and site design for municipal projects, and worked for King County Department of Transportation's bridge unit. He is working on projects for Bothell and Kitsap County. Otak provides engineering, urban design, architecture and planning, with offices in Washington, Arizona, Colorado, Oregon and Abu Dhabi.

Murray, Smith & Associates

Murray, Smith & Associates public works engineering firm named Troy Bowers as president. Bowers joined MSA in 1990 and has been senior vice president since 2008. He has led the firm in transportation engineering and been instrumental in its expansion. He replaces David Leibbrandt, who stepped down after 27 years. MSA said Leibbrandt guided the expansion from a Portland office to a six-office firm, with record revenues in 2012. MSA provides water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation planning, design and construction management services in the Northwest.

Bernardo|Wills Architects

Bernardo|Wills Architects hired Brian Page as a project architect/manager and Michelle Widner as an interior designer. Page worked for the firm from 2004 to 2011. He has 30-plus years of architectural experience, specializing in governmental, educational, commercial and corporate projects. He is project manager for renovations at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane. Widner has 10 years of interior design experience, focusing on corporate, retail, education and health care. She is working on the Newtech Skill Center in Spokane. The Spokane-based firm provides architecture, interior design, landscape architecture and master planning.

Mahlum Architects

Mahlum Architects promoted Niki Lesko to director of marketing for the Portland and Seattle offices. Lesko was hired in 1998, and has been marketing manager for eight years. She also will oversee business development and help the executive team with new initiatives. Mahlum designs for health care, pre-K-12 education, and higher education/student housing.

Soundview Consultants

Soundview Consultants hired Rick Fuller as a senior environmental scientist in the stormwater unit, Denali Halsey as an environmental scientist and Hannah Harper as an administrative assistant/field technician. Fuller focuses on identification and elimination of pollution sources and infiltration, environmental compliance and flow modeling and metering. He has 25-plus years of experience, including with Tacoma. Halsey has a background in environmental toxicology and marine ecology. Harper holds a double major in environmental science and resource management, and in aquatic and fisheries sciences. Soundview is an environmental, natural resource and land use consulting firm.
