AtWork Group, a national staffing franchise, recently signed a franchise agreement in Seattle with Rex and Debora Black. There are about 100 AtWork Group offices in the U.S. Debora Black has worked for 15 years in the staffing industry. Rex Black's experience is in software development and IT consulting. The office will open in April at 451 S.W. 10th St. and the couple plans to expand to Tacoma, Spokane and Portland. Services include temporary staff, temp-to-hire, payroll and full-time placement.
Orlando-based Embark Safety was the successful bidder on King County's ridesharing program, and will manage and monitor over 5,000 driving records for five years as part of the commuter van program. The monitoring system will eliminate the need for administrators to manage records on drivers. Embark Safety is part of a business incubation program at Central Florida Research Park.





In its Seattle office, Lease Crutcher Lewis promoted Jeremy Callas to project manager, and hired Brian Opp as project manager, Edith Gonzalez as marketing coordinator, Robyn Noto as executive assistant and Mikkel “Mikki” Van Natta as accounting assistant. Callas has seven years of industry experience and came to Lewis last year. He holds a bachelor's degree from Washington State University. Opp is focusing on TI work. He has been in construction for 10 years and holds a bachelor's degree in construction management from the University of Washington. Gonzalez has seven years of marketing and graphics experience. She holds a bachelor's degree from the UW and a master's degree from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Noto has been an administrative professional for 19 years and holds a bachelor's degree in communication studies from New York University. Van Natta attended Pierce College.


Nate Morr joined Mortenson Construction as an estimator in the Kirkland office, and Dewey Amos transferred to the Seattle operating group as a field engineer on the University of Washington Tacoma Urban Solutions project. Morr's background is in estimating construction budgets for multifamily projects. He is a graduate of the University of Washington. Amos spent the past couple years working on wind turbine projects. He holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Pennsylvania State University.

Spokane-based Bouten Construction Co. promoted Kreg Shelby to vice president of healthcare. Shelby is also working on the company's lean construction project delivery system. He joined Bouten in 2007 as a project manager, and holds a bachelor's degree in construction management from Washington State University.
Skanska USA promoted Don Crotty to lead its Life Science Center of Excellence. In his new role, Crotty is assisting regional offices, including Seattle, on medical projects by universities, the federal government, and pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. He is based in Skanska's Oakland, California, office.

Ruthann Haider of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was selected to attend the John F. Kennedy School of Government Senior Executive Fellows at Harvard University. The month-long program is designed for upper-level Army managers who have advanced rapidly into senior positions and are now required to focus on “the larger picture” of the organization. Haider is chief of the Contracting Division of the Walla Walla District.

Woodland Park Zoo has named Alejandro Grajal, an executive at Chicago's Brookfield Zoo, president and CEO. He starts May 16. Grajal, a native of Venezuela, is senior vice president for conservation, education and training at Brookfield, and has worked at National Audubon Society and the Wildlife Conservation Society. At Brookfield he oversees 15 field programs in North America, Latin America and Africa, and manages the zoo's partnerships. He has worked on conservation programs with U.S. AID, Global Environmental Fund, the World Bank and the European Union.

Lighthouse eDiscovery, which provides ediscovery and consulting services, hired Paul Hiteshew as director of infrastructure services. He has 15 years of experience in IT operations, engineering, planning and data centers. He worked on Microsoft's online service desk and Operations Center, directing a global team.
Private Client Services, a broker/dealer and investment advisor with offices in Olympia and Louisville, Kentucky, has added two Washington-based advisory firms: Capstone Investment Group in Olympia and Columbia Wealth Management in Longview. The firms report assets under management exceed $90 million. Capstone's partners are Patrick McClelland, Sandra Drennon and Steven Elliott. Patrick Costello owns Columbia.
