City of Kent

Komoto

Kent City Council appointed Kim Komoto as city clerk. Komoto succeeds Ronald Moore, who resigned in June. Komoto has been a legal analyst for Kent City Attorney's office since 2010 and has years of experience in public records law and compliance. She originally joined the city as a legal secretary in 2008. The city clerk supports the legislative process, provides access to official records, preserves city history, and works with other departments.

Cairncross & Hempelmann

Francis

Cairncross & Hempelmann said Thomas P. Francis has joined the Corporate Finance & Business Transactions group. He represents private companies and investors on complex business transactions. Francis worked as a police officer at Pasadena Police Department and as a transactional attorney at Foster Pepper.

Daniels Real Estate

The Mark

The Mark has topped out. Kevin Daniels and his partners announced this week that the 660-foot tower at Fifth Avenue and Columbia Street is expected to open next spring.The 48-story building will have a 189-room SLS Seattle hotel (designed by Phillipe Starck), retail space and 528,000 square feet of Class A office space — which is being marketed by Stuart Williams and Joe Gowan of Jones Lang LaSalle. Formal groundbreaking was in June of 2014. Daniels' financial partner is Stockbridge Capital Group. ZGF Architects designed The Mark, with distinctive zig-zag seismic bracing and a faceted glass curtain-wall, and JTM Construction is building it.

ST3: Where, When, Why?

There are only a few weeks left before the vote on Sound Transit 3, so AIA Seattle is holding an urban design forum titled “ST3: Where, When, Why?” Leading the discussion will be Seattle City Council member Rob Johnson, an urban planner who represents District 4. RSVP for the free event at aiaseattle.org. The event is at the Center for Architecture & Design, 1010 Western Ave., at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Frame

Real estate broker Kidder Mathews announced that Bill Frame will become the firm's president, in charge of 17 offices in five West Coast states. Frame, a UW graduate, has been with KM for 23 years. The firm's chairman and CEO, Jeff Lyon, said in a statement that Frame is “widely respected in the commercial real estate industry as well as company-wide at Kidder Mathews.” Frame said, “I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get involved in the day-to-day excitement of our aggressive expansion.”

Port of Everett

The Port of Everett announced it won four different awards for the proposed Waterfront Place Central development. First was a Gold Nugget Award of Merit as “Best on the Boards” from PCBC and Builder magazine. Second was the International Economic Development Council's Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award in the category of General Purpose Print Brochure. It also won two communications awards from the American Association of Port Authorities.

Permitting large, controversial projects

Registration has begun for a 2017 CLE legal seminar on “Permitting Strategies for Large, Controversial Projects in Washington State and the Northwest.” Topics will include state and federal environmental regulations, the energy industry and the influence of Asian markets. Speakers include Tony Warfield of the Port of Tacoma, Sara A. Leverette of Stoel Rives and David A. Bricklin of Bricklin & Newman. In Honolulu, Hawaii, Hart Crowser hired Tim (Xiaobin) Lin as an associate geotechnical engineer. In Portland, it hired Adam Jones as an engineering geologist. In Seattle, it hired Michael Chamberlain and Andrew Makdisi as geotechnical engineers and promoted Angie Goodwin to associate hydrogeologist. In Edmonds, it hired Stephanie Bonnington as a project assistant and promoted Jason Stutes to senior associate and Michelle Havey to associate. Lin has 17 years of experience in geotechnical investigation and design for waterfront structures, bridges, highways, high-rise buildings and landslide/rockfall projects. His clients include the Navy and Hawaii Department of Transportation. Jones has eight years of experience on dams, reservoirs and geologic hazards such as rockfall. He is working on landslide, levee and fish habitat restoration in Pacific County. Chamberlain holds a master's in geosystems engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. He is doing computer modeling for the seismic retrofit of an historic firehouse in Portland. Makdisi was a geotechnical engineering intern at Hart Crowser and holds a master's in civil engineering from the University of Washington. He does computer modeling for geotechnical earthquake engineering applications. Goodwin has been with Hart Crowser for 10 years, supporting projects involving water resources, environmental hydrogeology, remediation, property due diligence/redevelopment, and groundwater computer modeling. She helped develop an emergency water supply well for Seattle Children's Hospital. Bonnington was an executive business administrator for Microsoft. She will use her writing, editing and organizational skills to support the natural resources group. Stutes is a marine ecologist with a Ph.D. He has been with the firm for 10 years, specializing in eelgrass and other submerged aquatic vegetation, which are essential for juvenile migratory fish. He supports projects that combine environmental remediation with habitat restoration. Havey is a fisheries biologist with 13 years of experience in salmon ecology and habitat assessment. She has been with the firm for eight years working on ecological assessments of former mine sites, ecological baseline studies for mining and gas pipeline projects, and habitat monitoring of restoration projects. Hart Crowser is a 110-person engineering, science and consulting firm headquartered in Seattle.

In Kirkland, Freiheit & Ho Architects hired Mike Miranda as a project manager, Nellie Im as an interior designer and Rae Hauff, Joshua Thomas and Wilbur Holt as architectural designers. Miranda has eight years of experience and is working on Kin On Assisted Living. Im has six years of experience on retail and hospitality projects. She is working on interiors packages for dental practices. Hauff, Thomas and Holt hold masters of architecture degrees from Kansas State University, Washington State University and North Dakota State University, respectively. They are working on tenant improvements and restaurants. Freiheit & Ho is a commercial architecture and interior design firm.

Mitch Price joined Tetra Tech's Seattle office as a senior hydraulic engineering program manager. He has 22 years of experience in hydrology and hydraulics, geomorphology, sediment transport and river mechanics. His modeling and design experience has ranged from small streams to large complex river systems. Tetra Tech provides consulting and engineering services, with 16,000 staff worldwide.

HKP Architects

Miles

Austin Miles joined HKP Architects as an intern architect. Miles holds bachelor's and master's degrees in architecture from Washington State University. He is working on projects at Bellingham Technical College and Whatcom Community College. HKP is an architecture and design firm with offices in Mount Vernon and Seattle.

Dussault Law Group

The disability law, elder law, estate planning and settlement planning firm Dussault Law Group is changing its name to Brothers Henderson Dussault, marking the partnership transition from founder William Dussault to Joshua Brothers and Christopher Henderson. The firm was founded in 1984 by Dussault, who will remain of counsel with the firm.

Washington State Hospital Association

Gregg Davidson, who has worked at Skagit Valley Hospital and Skagit Regional Health for 37 years, was awarded the Joe Hopkins Memorial Award for leadership by the Washington State Hospital Association. Davidson served as superintendent/CEO of Skagit Regional Health/Public Hospital District No.1 since 2003.
