MainStreet brings pizza to Woodinville

MainStreet Property Group announced that Ethan Stowell's Ballard Pizza Co. will open a fourth new location at what it's dubbed the Schoolhouse District. That 3-acre development includes the preserved, over century-old former schoolhouse itself, plus the renovated YMCA building and the new GGLO-designed midrise complex with 266 units and retail. Stowell said in a statement, “We are most excited about getting to know the families and personalities of this fantastic community.” The 3,000-square-foot restaurant will be part of Wine Walk Row; it's expected to open in the second half of this year. Other signed commercial tenants now include Walla Walla Steak Co. and Crossbuck Brewing. MainStreet's sister company GenCap Construction built the project, and HAL Real Estate was a financial partner. The apartments, dubbed Class and Chalk, are set to open this fall.

Second spec building leased in Bremerton

The Port of Bremerton announced that it has leased the second of two speculative industrial buildings to Allied Boats. Both are in the Port's Olympic View Industrial and Business Park. The Port further announced that it's contemplating the addition of about 180,000 more square feet in three separate projects with private developers. Port CEO Jim Rothlin said in a statement, “All of these projects coming is a testimony to the hard work staff have put in to create shovel-ready opportunities to create more jobs for our community.”

Another Barnes & Noble? Yes, really

Physical bookstores are making a return, at least in Kirkland. Barnes & Noble announced that it'll open its first new store in the Seattle area in 14 years. It'll join other retail tenants at The Village at Totem Lake, which CenterCal Properties and partners have almost fully completed. The ribbon cutting will be on May 26, with local author Kobi Yamada in attendance. His latest children's book is Trying; he's also CEO of Compendium, a publisher and gift company. The venerable bookseller, founded in 1971, also has stores at Northgate, Alderwood and Westfield Southcenter. The Bellevue store, once a bowling alley, is slated for redevelopment by Bosa Development. After being a public company for 20 years, Barnes & Noble was purchased in 2019 for $638 million by private equity firm Elliott Advisors. The chain now has over 600 stores. The new Kirkland store will feature a cafe. The Village at Totem Lake meanwhile says that its Cinemark has resumed screening movies, and that an Amazon 4-Star store is coming soon.
