Molly Storrs has joined BCRA Design from Jackson Main Architecture as a senior level architect who brings nearly a decade of experience. She has extensive experience in the healthcare and education markets and will have the opportunity to continue supporting those markets at BCRA. Storrs is based in the Seattle office.

Makers architecture and urban design, LLP announced five promotions to associate 2: Beth Batchelder, Rishabh Ukil, Scott Bonjukian, Jena Gerry and Dylan Yamashita. Makers also promoted Carter Graydon to senior IT systems engineer.

Batchelder is a trained landscape designer and planner on the facilities planning team, experienced in facilitation and engaging stakeholders in the planning process. She has spearheaded Makers' efforts to improve understanding and practice related to equity. Also on the facilities team, Ukil has had a significant role in Makers' electric vehicle infrastructure projects, working on EV infrastructure needs assessment and code and policy analysis. Bonjukian, on the community planning team, has strong research skills and is effective at distilling complex information. He has shared his expertise at local, state and national conferences on topics including progressing parking code reform and updates to the Washington State Environmental Policy Act.

Gerry is an experienced project manager, with a knack for identifying skillsets and deploying resources. She has brought her graphic and data analysis skills to projects for federal clients, such as the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. Also on the federal team, Yamashita uses graphic representation and effective communication to assist clients in understanding project constraints and deriving solutions. He has worked on diverse projects, including waterfront improvements and military base planning.

Graydon is a performance-driven systems engineer with a track record of designing and configuring secure, reliable, and scalable networks. He is committed to improved system performance and finding innovative solutions to a host of IT challenges. He is currently leading Makers' federal NIST and CMMC compliance efforts.

Miller Hull has promoted Amber Mauer, Cory Mattheis, Eric Nothdurft, Jennifer Stormont, John MacKay, Nicole Verkist and Whitney Pearce to senior associate. Mauer, who works out of the San Diego office, directs business development for Miller Hull. Mauer is active with Urban Land Institute and the Downtown San Diego Partnership. A design leader within the firm, Cory Mattheis' role is centered around establishing design direction and ensuring that the main idea is reinforced as the project progresses. His work explores the role of physical and digital representation as an iterative design tool.

As a project manager, Eric Nothdurft is involved in all aspects of a project. He is often involved in the firm's U.S. State Department projects. Jennifer Stormont is a designer with more than 20 years of experience in designing for office, mixed-use, hospitality, and academic projects. A registered architect with a focus on interior design, she leads the firm's Interiors Lab. John MacKay's technical knowledge of the construction process, diverse building techniques, and systems coordination plays a critical role in his projects across LEARN, GATHER and LIVE sectors.

A trained architect, Nicole Verkist manages Miller Hull's visual communications, including project graphics, award submittals, and presentation materials. For the last ten years, Verkist has been at the seam of architecture and marketing. Whitney Pearce is both a project architect and project manager who works on projects of all scales across a variety of typologies.

P2S Inc. announced two new associate principals, Akshay Prabhu and Sierra Spitluski. Prabhu is an electrical studio leader that started with P2S in California before moving to Washington to develop the company's electrical practice in the Seattle office. Spitluski is a mechanical studio leader in one of our California Healthcare groups.

Kymeta

Kymeta and OneWeb, a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications company, announced a distribution partner agreement to offer broadband connectivity services across the globe. The OneWeb LEO satellite network will give Kymeta customers access to high-speed, low-latency broadband connectivity while on the move or while stationary, anywhere in the world. Kymeta offers the world’s only high-bandwidth, low power, fully integrated family of high throughput mobile terminals and has been widely adopted by military, government, enterprise, and maritime customers. The connectivity from OneWeb will complement Kymeta’s existing broadband geostationary orbit (GEO) and 4G cellular service offering. Kymeta’s distribution agreement with OneWeb will enable the company to resell OneWeb services in conjunction with fixed and mobility hardware solutions to government and commercial customers globally. The announcement comes just three months after the two companies partnered in a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to develop and bring to market by the end of 2022 a new u8-based LEO terminal that supports communications on the move (COTM) and communication on the pause (COTP) for governments, businesses, and communities. Kymeta is a privately held company based in Redmond.

Verasonics

Verasonics, a research ultrasound firm, announced that since February 2021, Verasonics has received six new patents supporting the company’s vision to advance research and development in biomedical ultrasound, materials science, earth sciences, and the physics of acoustics and ultrasonics. This marks an important milestone as the company continues to focus on developing research ultrasound technologies. Verasonics’ patent portfolio is now comprised of 74 issued patents worldwide, covering nine unique technologies. Verasonics has targeted patent coverage across important geographies including Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Macau, the Netherlands, Poland, the United Kingdom and the United States. Verasonics is a privately held company founded in 2001, with headquarters in Kirkland. Verasonics also licenses its technology to companies for use in their commercial products. Researchers in 36 countries across North and South America, Europe, Asia and Oceania routinely use Verasonics product solutions through their own research efforts.

Symetra promoted executive vice president Chantel Balkovetz to chief operations officer. In this newly created role, Balkovetz will add leadership for Symetra’s Information Technology organization to her current responsibilities heading Service & Operations for the company’s Retirement, Benefits and Individual Life divisions. She reports to Margaret Meister, president and chief executive officer. The announcement follows an organizational realignment to better position Symetra’s technology and business teams to help accelerate and achieve the company’s long-term strategic goals. The move blends Symetra’s IT teams with its Service & Operations organization, led by Balkovetz, and within its Strategy Office, led by chief of strategy Mindi Work, who will take on responsibility for leading emerging opportunities, experiences, new lines of business, and technologies. A member of the Symetra Leadership Team, Balkovetz was named executive vice president in April 2020, heading enterprise-wide service and operations. She joined Symetra in 2008 as director of Retirement Service and Operations, subsequently moved into the Individual Life Division, and was named vice president in 2011. In 2012, she became vice president, Individual Life and Retirement Service and Operations, and was promoted to senior vice president in March 2017. Symetra Financial is a diversified financial services company based in Bellevue.

Mukilteo-based UMC promoted Jan Garcia to senior engineer, Aaron Moore to controls operations manager, Stephanie Vogt to lead customer service representative, Sydney Armitage to account development specialist, and Melissa Feiler to tool and equipment manager. Garcia works in the Preconstruction group. He joined UMC in 2018 and is the design engineer for a high-rise lab/office project in Seattle. Moore is in the Building Automation group, where his projects have included work at SSA Marine and Plaza Yarrow Bay. Vogt is in the Mechanical Service group and joined the company in 2018. Armitage joined UMC in 2019 and works in the Business Development group, helping research industries, companies, and contacts in the development of account plans. Feiler works in the warehouse and has helped grow the company's tool management, asset tracking and rental programs. She has been with UMC since 2018.

In Kirkland, Compass Construction promoted Jordan Dye and Forrest Martin to senior project engineers; Brian Welsh to project manager; Jon Kohatsu to general accountant; and Arielle Linderman to project accountant. Dye started as a project engineer intern in 2016, and continued to do summer internships until he graduated from University of Washington and was hired full-time in 2019. Martin obtained his bachelor's degree from Central Washington University and began his career with Compass four years ago as a project engineer. Welsh attended Oregon State University, and was brought onto the Legacy West Seattle project last year as a senior project engineer. Kohatsu joined the firm in 2018 as a project accountant. He has several years of accounting experience, and attended Hawaii Pacific University. Linderman joined Compass in 2015 as a project compliance coordinator with many years of project administrator/coordinator experience.

Schnitzer Steel Industries

Schnitzer Steel Industries launched GRN Steel, a line of net zero carbon products from its Cascade Steel operation in McMinnville, Oregon. The company says Cascade Steel makes some of the lowest carbon emission steel products in the world through electric arc furnace technology powered by hydroelectricity. Schnitzer has a goal to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
