Steve Rosen and James Allard spent many afternoons eating lunch at conveyor belt sushi restaurants when they both worked at a tech company called Go2Net (later acquired by InfoSpace).
Allard had frequented such restaurants while studying in Japan and liked the concept. Over one of those lunches, the two decided to start their own restaurant.
