The Metropolitan Improvement District named Peggy Emerson field operations manager. Emerson's previous experience in operations and facility management includes positions with Amazon.com, Benaroya Co., Microsoft, Pike Place Market PDA and Seattle First International Bank. The Metropolitan Improvement District is a special initiative to improve the Seattle metropolitan environment financed by a self-imposed assessment on properties and managed by the Downtown Seattle Association.

Mark J. Barak joined Short Cressman & Burgess as an associate in the real estate practice. Barak's practice will concentrate on real estate development, acquisitions and sales, commercial financing and leasing, entity formation, and contracts.

Bret Olson has joined Wallace Properties of Bellevue as a commercial real estate agent specializing in real estate investments, commercial sales and leasing. He was previously with the office of United States Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn and has been an investor and manager for his family's real estate portfolio. Wallace Properties provides leasing, investment sales, property management, syndication and construction management services.
Marcus & Millichap will hold its Real Estate Investor Symposium March 26 at the Washington Athletic Club in Seattle. The event begins at 9 a.m. with registration. John Mitchell, economist with U.S. Bank, is the key note speaker. The symposium will look at Puget Sound markets, investment opportunities and fundamentals that drive the market's future performance. Troon Golf of Scottsdale, Ariz., has formed a partnership with Quadrant Corp. to manage the TPC Snoqualmie Ridge Golf Club, part of the planned community of Snoqualmie Ridge. Troon manages operations at more than 140 clubs in 26 states and 11 countries. The Jack Nicklaus-designed course at Snoqualmie Ridge covers 331 acres and offers views of Mount Si and Snoqualmie Falls.

James W. Thompson joined Wells Fargo Private Client Services in Tacoma as a vice president and private banker. Thompson most recently worked in commercial real estate loan origination and portfolio management for Columbia Bank and First Community Bank, and previously worked as a residential real estate branch manager and commercial real estate lender for Wells Fargo.
Jerry Mahan was John L. Scott Real Estate's highest-producing sales associate for 2002, the eighth time the 20-year Puyallup agent has scored the top spot. John L. Scott has 3,000 sales associates. Mahan closed 365 transactions totaling more than $80 million last year. Realtor Magazine identified Mahan as one of the top 100 Realtors in the country for 2001 and 2002. Mahan has been with John L. Scott for 10 years.

Stephen Ames was Coldwell Banker All-American Associates’ top-ranking agent last year, for the seventh year in a row. The firm employs more than 120 agents.The Federal Way resident is also one of the top agents in Coldwell Banker's international network. Ames has worked in real estate for 28 years and joined Coldwell Banker All-American Associates in 1988. He attended Seattle Pacific University and the Edwards/Lumbleau, Rockwell Institute and Cecil Lawter schools of real estate.
Mimi McHugh became a sales associate in Windermere Real Estate's Eastlake office. McHugh came from another career. Bill and Norma Merkle joined the firm's Magnolia office as new sales associates. Bill Merkle came from 25 years of owning a transportation business. Norma Merkle spent 13 years as an Alaska Airlines flight attendant before she formed a family counseling practice.
The Washington Apartment Association will hold its annual conference in Lynnwood on April 11 and 12. The Snohomish County Apartment Operators Association will host the 2003 conference at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Lynnwood. Speakers will include apartment consultant Mike Scott, initiative impresario Tim Eyman and Navy Lt. Cmdr. Kelly Hudson, who will talk about terrorism preparations. Sessions will include mold issues, what to do when death or crime occur in a property and a "stump the landlord" period of questions and answers.
