National Association of Industrial and Office Properties

The National Association of Industrial and Office Properties will host its spring seminar March 17 at Seattle's Bell Harbor International Conference Center. There will be panel discussions, "Navigating the Path to a Great American City" and "The Greening of Commercial Development -- Where's the Value and Who will Pay for It?" The group has invited Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels to sit on one panel. Among the other panelists are Sound Transit CEO Joni Earl, Bill Bain of NBBJ, Greg Smith of Gregory Broderick Smith Real Estate, Ada Healey of Vulcan Inc. and Denny Onslow of Harbor Properties. Wolfgang Rood Hospitality Consulting

Tough times continue for Washington hotel operators, according to a recent report by Wolfgang Rood Hospitality Consulting. The Bellevue company reports the hotel occupancy rate increased only slightly, by 0.4 percent. At the same time, the average daily room rate declined 1.5 percent to $95.09. Downtown Seattle was one bright spot; the occupancy rate was nearly 71 percent, up nearly 3 percent over 2002. Yet the average daily room rate downtown dropped 3.5 percent to just over $125.

NAIOP

Gina Buzzelle, assistant director of the state chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, was named the group's 2003 Employee of the Year. She was recognized at Wednesday's meeting.

Lorig Management Services

Sheri Goong has joined Lorig Management Services as human resources and benefits administrator. She also will coordinate property management staff training and help prepare procedure manuals. She previously was the policy and procedure writer for the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention. Lorig Management Services manages a portfolio of properties in Washington and Oregon. Buildings range from the Queen Anne Apartments (formerly Queen Anne High School) to Uwajimaya Village in the International District.

For the ninth consecutive year, agent Jerry Mahan of John L. Scott Real Estate was the 3,300-agent company's top sales producer in 2003. He closed 389 transactions totaling more than $105 million. Realtor Magazine named Mahan to its Top 100 Realtors in the nation list in 2001, 2002 and 2003. He has been a real estate agent for more than 21 years, 11 of those with John L. Scott. He specializes in new construction, land sales and residential re-sale. Also, the John L. Scott Foundation donated $25,000 to the KISS 106.1 FM's "radiothon" for Children's Hospital. A total of $880,000 was raised. All funds go for patient care.

Lorig Associates

Stephen Holt has joined Seattle-based Lorig Associates as project manager for the Salishan project. Salishan is a 188-acre community in Tacoma. It is being redeveloped in conjunction with the Tacoma Housing Authority. The project entails razing 855 rental units and building 970 rental and 300 for-sale homes as well as a new neighborhood center and parks. Work is to begin this summer. Holt, who has 30 years of experience in housing and public administration, was director of the Snohomish County Department of Planning and Development Services, executive director of the Housing Authority of Snohomish County and director of housing programs for the Puget Sound Regional Council.

Windermere

Lesly Brandt and Patrick Kane joined the Ballard office of Windermere Real Estate as sales associates. Brandt is new to real estate, and Kane was a sales associate with Landmark Group in Seattle.

NAIOP

  • Kathleen P. Wilcox, president and CEO of the Washington Software Alliance, will speak at NAIOP's 7 a.m. Feb. 18 meeting at the Grand Hyatt, 721 Pine St., Seattle. She will discuss the state of the software industry. Cost is $30 for National Association of Industrial and Office Properties members and $45 for nonmembers.
