ek Real Estate Group

Real estate broker Edward Krigsman has started ek Real Estate Group in Seattle, specializing in urban residential properties. The company offices are in Fisher Plaza because of its built-in communication and media technologies, Krigsman said. He will hire people who are comfortable using new technology. Krigsman was recently elected to Forum XXII, an organization of Northwest brokers who specialize in luxury properties.

S-J Management

Seattle-based S-J Management is forming a new investment program, Monte Viejo Associates LLC, to buy the 480-unit Monte Viejo Apartments in Phoenix. The $50.5 million purchase will require approximately $11.5 million in equity capital. S-J CEO Michael Sauter says this is the fifth time in two years S-J has led the acquisition of a multifamily property in Phoenix.

HomeStreet Capital

HomeStreet Capital has provided $9.3 million in financing to the Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority for the LaSalle-Creamery project, a mixed-use building with 64 affordable apartments for low-income seniors. Eric Brown, community lending manager for HomeStreet Capital, arranged financing through HomeStreet Bank portfolio funds. This is the first major construction project in more than 15 years in the Market. It includes rehabbing the LaSalle and three other early-20th century hotels. A six-story building will be constructed on an adjacent lot that was home to a creamery. The project will have retail and a senior center.

The Hotel Group

The Hotel Group of Edmonds bought the 203-room Hilton Suites Brentwood near Nashville, Tenn., from Hilton Hotels for $6.5 million. The transaction represents the aggressive acquisition strategy with The Hotel Group's Opportunity Funds, said Doug Dreher, president of The Hotel Group. The hotel will undergo a $3.5 million renovation. The Hotel Group owns and manages 30 properties in 11 states.

Northwest Resource Management Group

Seattle-based Northwest Resource Management Group won approval from the Las Vegas City Council to build Cielo Vista, a 414-condo highrise downtown. "These may be the smartest (developers) down here," Mayor Oscar Goodman said, referring to the Seattle company's projected price point of $315 a square foot. That's about $100 less than the average price for new condos in the area. More than 200 buyers have put down $5,000 deposits. MWT Ofra of Las Vegas designed the 27-story project. Construction is to begin in late 2005 and finish in early 2007.

Members of the Urban Land Institute's Young Leaders' Group will tour Vancouver, B.C., July 15. Participants and experts will discuss how Vancouver has handled transportation, housing, education and other development issues Seattle faces. The group will take the train to Vancouver. The cost, which ranges from $48 for ULI members under 35 to $100 for nonmembers over 35, includes the train ticket and two meals.
