Seattle Union Station, the 606,000-square-foot three-building campus next to Qwest Field in Seattle, has been certified LEED silver in the category of operations and maintenance of existing buildings. CB Richard Ellis provided sustainability services. CBRE said a clean water treatment system eliminates the need for hazardous chemicals and reduces annual water consumption by more than 500,000 gallons. Tenants are composting food waste and recycling more than 271 pounds of paper each day. Certification required no major capital upgrades.

Aspira, a new Seattle apartment tower developed by Urban Partners, was awarded four-star environmental certification from Built Green. It is the first high-rise residential building in Seattle to earn the certification. The 37-story tower has electric car recharging stations. Built Green is a nonprofit program of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties.
Jeff Henderson, finance officer of NBS Financial Services in Seattle, arranged $4.6 million in financing for Snohomish Self Storage in Snohomish. Located on about 8.5 acres, the 11-year-old business has 707 storage units and 281 RV parking spaces. The alliance works with 20 other mortgage banking firms across the country. Capital sources are local, national and international.
The International Council of Shopping Centers appointed five volunteer officers for Washington state: Timothy L. Jackson, Wallace Properties, Bellevue, state director; Alesha L. Shemwell, Macerich, Redmond, government relations committee chair; Thomas L. Spader, Freiheit & Ho Architects, Kirkland, alliance private sector co-chair; Terrie Battuello, city of Bothell, alliance public sector co-chair; and Trace Blethen, Starbucks, retail chair. Glen Bachman, Bellevue Square Managers, will head the Government Relations Committee.
The Seattle commercial real estate company Yates Wood & MacDonald is marking 20 years in business under the leadership of company President Nancy Darlington. The company has been in business here since 1944.
