Steve Schwartz leaves JLL for CBRE

CBRE announced that veteran broker Steve Schwartz has moved from JLL to specialize in tenant representation for the firm. During his 20-year career, which began in New York, Schwartz has brokered over 8 million square feet for clients including BNY Mellon, Esterline, Expedia and T-Mobile.

Weidner moves up NMHC list

Weidner Apartment Homes said that National Multi-Family Housing Council has moved the Kirkland company up two slots on its annual Top 50 list, from 17 last year to 15 this year. Weidner's Greg Cerbana said the company now has more than 260 buildings and 50,000 units owned and managed. In 2017 Weidner expanded its portfolio in Utah and Oklahoma, and entered the Wisconsin market. Founded in 1977, Weidner last year paid $225 million for the 34-story, 313-unit Tower 12 in Belltown.

MoxiWorks makes three new hires

The cloud-based Seattle brokerage startup MoxiWorks has expanded again. Bennett Hutt makes the move from Realtor.com. Alex Jacobs cames from Lone Wolf, and Nick Van Valkenberg was with a competing firm. Serving over 100,000 agents and 55 brokerages nationwide, MoxiWorks provides an open platform system for large residential real estate brokerages. Products include LeadingRE Cloud and MoxiCloud.

Village at Totem Lake adds Chipotle

Chipotle Mexican Grill has opened in the lower portion of the Village at Totem Lake, which is currently being redeveloped in phases. When Phase II at the upper portion of the mall is completed in a few years, the entire project is expected to have 15,000 square feet of offices, 328,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, 850 apartments and an eight-screen cinema. CenterCal Properties is one of the partners in the 26-acre project.

ULI panel on placemaking with retail

The local chapter of the Urban Land Institute will hold a panel discussion May 10 titled “Beyond Bank Branches and Nail Salons: Better Placemaking With Local Businesses.” Panelists haven't been announced yet. Danforth developer offers contest

The 16-story, 265-unit Danforth is scheduled to open in July at Broadway and Madison Street. To entice renters, developer Columbia Pacific Advisors has created a contest called “Experience Danforth: Live Well, Do Good, Have Fun.” For each free entry, $1 will go to three local nonprofits: Artist Trust, Seattle Humane and Country Doctor. Each will get a minimum of $2,500. Contest packages include events at The Frye Art Museum, OOLA Distillery, Northwest Film Forum and Willows Inn on Lummi Island.

Chris McDougall new CEO at CBA

The Commercial Brokers Association named industry veteran Chris McDougall president and CEO. He replaces Michelle Mills Clement, who is now CEO of the Chicago Association of Realtors. McDougal makes the move from Colliers, and has prior experience at ATREG, LoopNet and Grubb & Ellis. Jeff Johnson, chairman of the CBA board of directors, said McDougall's background in IT, research and brokerage makes him uniquely qualified to run CBA.

Quadrant partners with Amazon

As part of its HomeSmart initiative, Quadrant Homes has added Amazon Alexa devices to its suite of technology features. They include Echo Show, Echo Dot and Echo Spot. Alexa will also be able to communicate with Samsung's SmartThings Hub, Schlage door locks and Nest thermostats. Quadrant is wiring all its homes for a router. The company's Ken Krivanec said in a statement that the goal is to create “an intuitive home that responds to the buyer's individual needs.”

Wallace Properties hires Hanhart

Wallace Properties named Christine Hanhart a new vice president. She'll focus on retail and industrial leasing, plus property investments. She makes the move from Mohr Partners, and has managed over 1 million square feet of office, industrial, biomedical and retail space. Her Wallace portfolio includes Gateway Center in Yakima.

Wenatchee firm joins Berkshire

Veteran broker NormaJean Jessup said her firm has joined a new franchise network and will take the name Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Jessup Real Estate. Jessup founded her company in 2014, and expects it to double in size by 2020. Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices now has about 45,500 agents and 1,350 offices.
