Description
The school district’s mandate was to restore a 140,000-square-foot,
1926 brick school while providing a modern facility meeting current
educational program requirements.
The entire facility, with the exception of the auditorium, will be
gutted. All building systems and interior walls will be replaced. The
facility has been designed to meet the prototypical middle school program
of the Tacoma School District, including classrooms, administration,
library, technology, science and music areas.
The 10,000-square-foot auditorium will be restored for use by the school
as well as the community. An addition will link the gymnasium to the
main school building and provide expanded commons area, library and
technology classrooms.
The site will be redeveloped to accommodate the addition of a track,
soccer fields, basketball court and playfields. Site circulation has
been redesigned to separate bus and parent traffic, drop-off and service
traffic, and provide on-site parking for staff.
