While many 2008 presidential candidates have held up the “banner of change” to attract voters, few specify what they mean by change, other than in the vaguest of terms. People are drawn to this message — the hope for a better future — forgetting that change for the sake of change can be dangerous when the consequences are not well thought out.
Change is not synonymous with progress. Progress implies a journey with milestones, a journey of continuous improvement. Progress is almost always linked to change. But change does not always imply progress, no matter how attractive the vision.
