Contractor finds biodiesel a breath of fresh air

  • Andersen Construction turned to biodiesel in response to foul-air complaints at a Portland hospital project. Now the company plans to use the fuel in its forklifts at all its jobsites.

    Sunbelt Rentals provided the biodiesel-fueled forklift on this hospital expansion job in Portland. Sunbelt plans to increase its biodiesel fleet of rental equipment.

    At any other construction site, Dane Brewer would caution his workers against sticking their noses into a forklift's exhaust pipe stack. The dusty black particulates belched from a running diesel engine are known to contribute to long-term health risks, cardiovascular problems and cancer.
