City of Seattle

The city of Seattle's architecture, engineering and space planning division within the Fleets and Facilities Department recently announced the following promotions: Dove Alberg, manager III; Monica Lake, strategic advisor II; Don McDermott, capital projects coordinator; Gita Monghate, senior building project coordinator; and Jun Quan, strategic advisor II.

Baylis

Baylis Architects recently announced the addition of three employees: Wendy Stansbury joins the firm as a bookkeeper. Prior to joining Baylis Architects, Stansbury owned and managed a retail business and worked for Boeing Computer Services. Richard Maxon worked as lead design architect for Otak Architects before joining Baylis. Stefani Dodd joined the firm as a summer architectural intern. She returns to Washington State University as a fourth-year architecture student in the fall.

KPFF

William Cichanski, an associate with KPFF Consulting Engineers, is now at the firm’s recently opened Tacoma office. A civil/structural engineer with 28 years experience, Cichanski’s expertise includes design, evaluation, and rehabilitation of waterfront and floating structures. He also specializes in seismic upgrades of fixed and floating bridges and has extensive experience in forensic engineering.

He was involved in the study that investigated the feasibility of additional lanes to the I-90 floating bridge. Cichanski’s projects in Tacoma include the rehabilitation of the Proctor Street Bridge, structural repairs at the Group Health Specialty Center and two specially designed floating docks being constructed in Tacoma that will be towed to Alaska in August. Other projects include Terminal 18 for the Port of Seattle and Sinclair Landing/Bremerton Transportation Center.

Swenson

Swenson Say Faget announced the following additions to the Seattle office: Scott Hufford, project engineer. A native of Tacoma, Scott received his Civil Engineering degree from the University of Washington. Lära Simmons, project engineer, received her bachelor's in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering, from the University of Minnesota. Mike Annee, project engineer, holds a bachelor's in aerospace engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Casne

Casne Engineering announced the addition of Brian Christoferson to the Spokane office. As lead controls engineer, Christoferson will be responsible for SCADA system design, programming and system start-up. He brings 16 years experience in I&C design, automation, PLC programming, start-up, and commissioning.

Glosten

Glosten Associates has named William L. Hurley Jr. as president. Previously Hurley served as vice president of operations and was responsible for hiring new associates and improving project delivery methods.

Hurley joined Glosten in 1977, after receiving his bachelor’s degree in naval architecture and marine engineering from the University of Michigan. He has participated in all aspects of the firm’s naval architecture work and directed new design and major conversions for vessels of all types. Hurley has written or co-written 10 published technical papers and has presented his research at conferences in Canada and the United States. Hurley has acted as project engineer, project manager and project naval architect on a number of new design programs and major vessel conversions. He applied his engineering skills to the design of self-propelled workboats, research vessels, passenger ferries and ocean barges. He worked with shipyard personnel on construction projects, as well as acting as on-site consultant for large-scale submersible barge load-outs.

Prior to Hurley, Duane Laible served as President of The Glosten Associates from 1981-2000. Laible will continue to be active in the firm and serve as Chairman of the Board

Northwestern Landscape Co.

Puyallup-based Northwestern Landscape Co. has promoted Randy Morris to vice president of operations in its construction division and promoted Linda Oakes to vice president of finance and administration. Morris has been with the company for more than 13 years and Oakes has been with the company for more than 10 years

MulvannyG2

MulvannyG2 Architecture's Bellevue office has promoted Cliff Hasert to associate, Chris Quandt to senior project manager and Daven Laxa to architectural technician.

Hasert is a lead manager at MulvannyG2 and is managing various retail and office projects from schematic design through construction administration. He has worked on many of the firm's Seattle-area commercial projects, most recently the 180,000-square-foot Unigard Park office campus in Bellevue.

Quandt manages retail and office projects from schematic design through construction administration. He is working on the 139,000-square-foot Advanced Technology Laboratory Research & Development Building in Bothell, and various Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouses located throughout the western U.S.

Laxa manages the design and construction of Costco Wholesale's gas station projects, from permitting to final completion. He is currently working on Costco gas station projects in Carlsbad, Calif., Charleston, S.C., and Southlake, Texas. He joined MulvannyG2 in 1999 as a CAD technician and has 10 years experience in the design industry.

MulvannyG2 also recently hired Michael Tausher as a senior project manager and Brad Welch as an estimator at its Bellevue office.

Tausher will be responsible for managing various Costco Wholesale projects in Texas. He is managing the development of a new Costco warehouse in Lewisville, Texas. He has 18 years of experience in architecture and has designed numerous projects in Skagit and Snohomish counties. Welch will assist in the estimating department along with helping develop the scheduling process for MulvannyG2 projects. He has 12 years of experience working in the construction industry.

Reid Middleton

Farhad Rowshanzamir and Jason Emoto have joined Reid Middleton’s structural engineering group.

Rowshanzamir will serve as a senior structural engineer, designing buildings, bridges, retaining walls and seismic retrofits. He brings 20 years of experience working as a structural engineer, designing structures ranging from buildings, bridges and wharves to water park structures. Prior to coming to Reid Middleton, Rowshanzamir worked at Seattle-based Symonds Consulting Engineers as a structural engineer.

Emoto has been a part of Reid Middleton as a project engineer, designing buildings and seismic rehabilitations, for a year. His design work has included projects such as the Industrial Skills Center seismic retrofit for the U.S. Navy and a 70,000-square-foot expansion of the Alaska Airlines maintenance building. Emoto has more than six years of structural engineering experience.

Vector Engineering

Vector Engineering, Inc., of Olympia, announced that Mark Stevens has been hired as a project manager. Stevens has 20 years of experience in civil and forest engineering. He will manage civil engineering projects for both public and private clients.

CDi

Joseph I. Llona, with CDi Engineers in Lynnwood, has earned his Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Professional Accreditation through the U.S. Green Building Council. The accreditation means that Llona has demonstrated his knowledge of green building design, practices and strategies, and his understanding of the LEED Green Building Rating System, resources and processes.

Llona incorporates his knowledge and interest in sustainable design on the projects he manages, including the University of Washington Bothell/Cascadia Community College co-located campus in Bothell; Sound Transit maintenance facilities in Seattle and Tacoma; various projects for NOAA in the Seattle area; the 1200 Third Avenue Building in downtown Seattle; and the new Museum of History and Industry slated for the Washington State Convention and Trade Center.

Glosten

Matthew S. Miller, a naval architect and salvage engineer, joined the Glosten Associates, a Seattle-based consulting engineering firm serving the marine industry.

Miller is reviewing proposed modifications to convert a pilot boat to an oceanographic research vessel for regulatory compliance issues. He is also working on a project providing naval architecture support for an off-shore drilling platform move -- a four-month project Glosten will manage from start-up to overseeing the move.

As an active member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Miller co-authored and published a paper investigating the compressive strengths of three common welding methods.

Thomas Bowen has also joined Glosten. Bowen specializes in design of ship propulsion and auxiliary systems. As a marine engineer for Glosten, Bowen’s responsibilities include cost analysis of different ship and barge conversions, as well as marine systems analysis and design. He is working on the M/V Tustumena refurbishment for the Alaska Marine Highway System. He is rerouting and replacing systems of piping which carry hydraulic fluid to the fin stabilizers. The fins run on a hydraulic system, extending out the sides of the ferry in order to keep it balanced in turbulent seas
