Seattle-based architects Arai Jackson Ellison Murakami have announced promotions. Joining partners Steven Arai and Cliff Jackson are Bruce Ellison, Rich Murakami and Frank Silkwood.

Ben Dayot and Mark Spitzer are now principals. Ben Pongprot is an associate.

Ellison is working on a new Bremerton Police Headquarters and Municipal Court and new maintenance facilities for King County Metro at the Atlantic Central Base. Murakami is working on the Port of Seattle Police Headquarters at Sea-Tac International Airport as well as a civic campus master plan for the city of Post Falls, Idaho. Silkwood is director of the transportation design group, which provides planning and design for facilities serving air travel, ferries, local and regional transit, and intercity rail.

Dayot is designing the new Bremerton Police Headquarters and Municipal Court. Spitzer is working with The Evergreen State College on the Science II Building renovation as well as its campus master plan update. Pongprot is the project manager for the Port of Seattle Police Headquarters at Sea-Tac International Airport.

Arai Jackson Ellison Murakami practices architecture, interiors and urban design throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Thomas Hacker Architects

The Portland firm of Thomas Hacker Architects appointed two new associates: Paul Kinley and Joann Hermance. Kinley has worked on projects for the University of Oregon, the Oregon Historical Society and the Astoria Column Visitors Center. He worked for BOORA Architects and Allied Works Architecture in Portland after moving from California, where he worked for Ellerbe Becket Architects and Frank O. Gehry and Associates.

Hermance's work includes the Alameda Library in Alameda, Calif., and the classroom and office building at UC Merced. She worked for Thompson Vaivoda and Associates in Portland, and Polshek and Partners, Architects in San Francisco.

Coffman Engineers

Trish Connor has joined Coffman Engineers' Lumena Lighting division as lead of the architectural lighting design group. Her expertise includes interior and exterior lighting for commercial, historic, civic, retail, master planning, hospitality, residential and custom fixture design.

She has won awards for projects such as Scotland's Forth Rail Bridge and Memphis's Pyramid Arena as a designer with Ross De Alessi Lighting Design.

Abacus Engineered Systems recently added Alan Carter, Paul Meyer and Mark Merritt to the electrical engineering group in its Seattle office.

Carter has 10 years experience in electrical engineering for health care, commercial, educational, retail, light industrial and military clients. He held several positions of increasing responsibility in electrical and multimedia engineering for organizations in the Rocky Mountain region. Meyer has nine years of experience in mechanical and electrical design, and project management, with an emphasis in commercial and institutional facilities. Merritt also graduated from California Polytechnic State University with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He is a team member for the University of Washington emergency power system expansion project, participating in the preliminary design, scope of work and cost estimates.

ALSC Architects

Steve Roth has been promoted to associate at ALSC Architects of Spokane. Roth joined ALSC in 1997 and has worked with clients such as URM Stores, River Park Square, the Army & Air Force Exchange Service and Nine Mile Falls School District.

Planner and designer Suenn Ho will be senior designer for MulvannyG2 Architecture's Portland office. She will work on current projects in Seattle's International District. Ho's past experience includes mapping historic urban Chinatowns in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Ho taught architecture at the University of Hong Kong, and is an assistant professor at the University of Oregon and Portland State University.

CDi Engineers

Mechanical consulting firm CDi Engineers announced Steve Stamm and Frank van der Harst have joined the Lynnwood office. Stamm designs mechanical systems for health care, laboratory and high-tech projects and will work as senior mechanical designer. Van der Harst joined the company's health care group and will provide plumbing design services for Valley Medical Center in Renton and St. Charles Medical Center in Redmond, Ore.
