Rice Fergus Miller recently opened an office in Minneapolis and is staffing the office with four designers from Minnesota: Craig Caligiuri, Emily Winkles, Jeff Weiss and Vincent Stanchina. The team is working on a continuing care retirement community in Plymouth, Minn. Caligiuri, the main office contact in Minneapolis, is a project manager and associate. His experience ranges from health care to housing and includes roles in project management, concept design, programming, design development, construction documentation and construction management for new construction, additions, and renovation work. Winkles is assisting in technical production. Weiss is a technical designer with experience ranging from project proposals to design and construction documents. Stanchina is an architect with a focus on health care and senior living projects. He began specializing in health care projects in 2002 and has 19 years of experience.

MacKay & Sposito

Sherby
MacKay & Sposito’s Chris Sherby passed his professional land surveyor exam and Nicki Spike passed her professional human resources exam. Sherby works in the Vancouver office and has been with M&S since 1998. He began work as an office aid, worked on field crews, and then left to get his degree. Sherby returned to M&S full time two years ago, and is currently instructing a surveying night class at Clark College as part of the Certified Survey Technician certificate program, in addition to his work at M&S. Spike also works in the Vancouver office, and has been with M&S since 1999. The PHR is an industry certification for people working in the human resource management profession and signifies that individuals possess knowledge and experience in human resource management.

Bassetti Architects promoted eight employees to associates. David Axt specializes in material research, specification writing and door hardware. He provides construction documents for an array of projects. Ted Cameron is lead organizer for office design chats. He is working on Lakota Middle School. Lindsay Crawford is a strong advocate for mentorship inside and outside the office. His recent work on First United Methodist Church benefits from his long history of experience with institutional projects. Caroline Lemay has experience with both large and small-scale restoration projects. Having just completed the rehabilitation of Camp Waskowitz dining hall, she is participating in the firm’s strategic planning. Kristian Kicinski worked on the recently completed St. Thomas School, a project that is targeting one of the first gold certifications under LEED for Schools. Ross Parker has 20 years of international experience on major institutional, education and sustainable projects. He is working on Denny Middle School/Chief Sealth High School. Brian Rich has expertise in technical detailing and construction and is also working on Lakota Middle School. He recently made a presentation on historic preservation to the King County Landmarks Commission called “Greening in Place: Historic Preservation as Sustainable Design Strategy.” Courtney Rosenstein is marketing director and is leading the launch of the firm’s new identity.

Safebuilt

Barth
Safebuilt, a private provider of building department services, hired Michael Barth to lead its new office in South Seattle. Safebuilt also has an office in Richland. Barth was previously the chief building official for Kitsap County. He is an ICC Certified Master Code Professional, Building Official and Building Code Official and is a member of the Washington Association of Building Officials. Barth owned a general contracting business.

CB Engineers

Reynolds
CB Engineers promoted Tim Reynolds to director in its Bellevue office. Reynolds worked in HVAC and refrigeration contracting for 15 years prior to earning a degree in mechanical engineering and becoming licensed more than 13 years ago. He plays a key role in the coordination and development of CB Engineers sustainable design and initiatives corporate-wide.

Farallon Consulting

Farallon Consulting promoted Senior Project Manager Jeffrey Kaspar and Senior Environmental Scientist Amy Essig Desai to partners. They will contribute to corporate decision-making while continuing to serve as project managers. A licensed geologist and hydrogeologist and the manager of Farallon’s Geology/Hydrogeology Group, Kaspar serves as senior project manager and technical lead for environmental investigations, remediation, site hazard assessments, and insurance evaluations. He has 19 years of experience in the environmental consulting industry, and developed the Northwest Environmental Training Center’s course on natural attenuation of petroleum hydrocarbons and chlorinated solvents. Essig Desai heads Farallon’s Environmental Sciences Group. She has 11 years of experience in environmental due diligence, environmental investigations, site cleanups, and environmental compliance audits. Farallon Consulting also hired Brett T. Carp to its Environmental Sciences Group in Issaquah. Carp is a certified associate ecologist and has seven years of environmental science experience.

Rushing

Rushing named Eric Vander Mey to associate principal and promoted Ginette Chin to director of electrical engineering. Vander Mey has worked in the design/build industry for more than 10 years and is currently involved in the design of several downtown Seattle high-rise mixed-use projects and facility additions and upgrades for Seattle University. He also sits on Seattle’s Construction Code Advisory Board. Chin is a leader in Rushing’s integrated design process and her broad base of experience ranges from mixed-use, office, biotech, and hospital facilities to municipal waste-water and airfield lighting projects. Chin is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and Illuminating Engineering Society.

Jacobs Associates

Three Seattle-based Jacobs Associates engineers were promoted to associate as Jacobs relocated to larger offices in the Watermark Tower on First Avenue. Jeremy Johnson has experience in geotechnical, civil and environmental engineering. He is working on several projects and has performed both geotechnical and structural engineering analyses for projects including the East Contract of the Brightwater Conveyance project in Seattle. Carol Ravano has 17 years of geotechnical and civil experience and has played leading design roles on the Union Pacific Railroad I-5 Tunnel Clearance Project and the Caltrain Seismic Upgrade. She is working on Norfolk Southern’s 531-mile-long Heartland Corridor. Sam Swartz has more than 10 years of civil engineering experience in underground tunnel design, and is an expert in bolted and gasketed, pre-cast concrete segmental lining systems. He is providing design services for the University Link Light Rail Project.
