Research Data Design of Portland has named Arturo Coto as vice president of sales and marketing. Coto, who joined the company in March 2002, was formerly director of the Americas for Global Market Insight and spent nine years with The Gallup Organization. Founded in 1994, Research Data Design collects data for business, consumer and multilingual studies for clients from various industries.
Robert deGavre has been appointed to Corus Pharma's board of directors and named chair of the company's audit committee. Before joining the Seattle-based biotech and specialty pharmaceutical firm, Gavre served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Westmark International. He also served as vice president and treasurer of Squibb Corporation and as treasurer of Inco Limited.
Online mortgage service provider LION, Inc. of Seattle has named David Stedman as chief executive officer. Stedman has served as the company's president since Oct. 2000. His predecessor, Jack McMillan, remains with LION as chairman of the board. In addition to its Seattle office, LION maintains an office in Denver.
Three attorneys in the Seattle office of Williams, Kastner & Gibbs have recently been named to important community and professional posts. Mark Davidson was appointed to the Alzheimers Association of Central and Western Washington Chapter's board of directors. David H. Smith was named co-chair of the Defense Research Institute's white collar crime seminar scheduled for April 2003. Smith was also appointed to the board of directors of the YMCA of Greater Seattle's youth and government section, which has managed youth legislature and mock trial programs for Washington teenagers for more than 30 years. Yemi Fleming Jackson has been elected vice president of the Loren Miller Bar Association, the United States' oldest minority bar and largest organization of black attorneys. Jackson also recently became a trustee for the board of the Washington Trial Defense Lawyers.

Davis Wright Tremaine named four new intellectual property/patent attorneys as of counsel. Brian G. Bodine, David H. Deits, Michael J. Donohue and George C. Rondeau Jr. have all joined the firm's Seattle office. All four attorneys were previously with the Seed Intellectual Property Law Group. Bodine's practice will focus on intellectual property litigation, Deits will focus on domestic and international trademark issues, Donohue will focus on electrical and biomedical engineering and computer matters and Rondeau will focus on electrical and mechanical patent matters, U.S. trademarks and general intellectual property practice.
The Washington State Department of Ecology awarded the Alaska Tanker Company with an Ecopro award for exceeding the state's best achievable protection standards for oil tankers. Alaska Tanker Co. is a joint operation of Overseas Shipholding Group, keystone Shipping Co. and BP. The company manages a fleet of ten tankers that transport BP's Alaskan North Slope crude oil from Valdez to destinations on the west Coast and Hawaii.
G.I. Joe's new store in Kent will hold a grand opening event August 15-18. The store, located at 2598 S.E. 104th Ave., adds 60 jobs to the community and is managed by Lori Bennett.
Among the officers named to the board of directors of the Association for Women in Communications are Lorraine Howell of Media Skills Training as president, Cathy Stevens of Marketing Partners as president-elect, Terry Timm Moos as vice president/recording secretary, Paula Ward as vice president/finance, Kathleen Florio as vice president/membership and Carole Wilbeck of the University of Washington as vice president/communications. Laurel Ruelos of the Northwest federal Credit Union was named as the organization's Webmaster. The Seattle association is one of 120 international chapters of professionals in the communications field.
