Laird Norton Trust promoted Mary Justice to executive vice president and managing director of marketing and high-net worth business development. She will be responsible for business development and marketing initiatives in the firm's Seattle office. Laird Norton is headquartered in Seattle with offices in Tacoma and Bellevue.
Cherienne Tibbetts joined Beck & Associates as controller/office manager. Most recently, Tibbets worked for Dodd Wing & Co. Berk & Associates is a strategic planning and policy development consulting firm.
Ron Heller has been named market manager of the newly formed North Puget Sound Community Banking market for Wells Fargo. Heller is a 24-year veteran of Wells Fargo and is based in its Marysville banking store. He will oversee 50 team members located in Anacortes, Lake Stevens, Marysville, Oak Harbor and Stanwood.
Governor Gary Locke appointed Francis Martin of Yakima to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Public Disclosure Commission Commissioner Gerry Marsh. Martin is a retired firefighter from Yakima and previously served as racing secretary for Kennewick. Martin’s partial term will end Dec. 31, 2004. The commission also confirmed the governor's earlier appointment of Mike Connelly as a PDC commisioner. Connelly is currently city attorney for the city of Spokane and also an adjunct professor at the Gonzaga School of Law. Commissioners Susan Brady and Lois Clement were also elected vice chair and secretary respectively. Each commission member serves in an elected position for a one-year term.
The University of Washington has won a national technology award for its Catalyst Initiative, an university-wide effort to improve teaching through the use of technology.The award was in the higher education category of the third annual Digital Government Award, a national contest organized by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Accenture. The Catalyst Initiative is a suite of 10 Web-based tools that are accessed by the entire university community.

Wells Fargo named James Prunty regional president for Wells Fargo Community Banking throughout Washington. Prunty joined Wells Fargo in 1984 and was previously regional manager for Washington Community Banking. Wells Fargo also named Evelyn Lane business banking manager for its Northern Washington district. Lane will be based in Everett and cover the territory from North Seattle to the Canadian border. She has been a business banker for Wells Fargo in Everett since 2000.
Kathy A. Fraley, vice president and manager of the Commercial Insurance Division of Bratrud Middleton Insurance in Tacoma, has been elected to Safeco’s National Advisory Council. Fraley was among 20 independent insurance agents nationwide selected to join the council. She will represent nine western states. The advisory council program is intended to help Safeco and agents improve communication, resolve concerns and create new business opportunities.
Dr. Christina M. Surawicz has been named to the newly created position of assistant dean for faculty development at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Surawicz is a professor of medicine in the division of gastroenterology and chief gastroenterology at Harborview Medical Center. As assistant dean she will design, implement and coordinate faculty development programs for the School of Medicine.
Rigel Capital Management was recently ranked fourth among 187 managers in the U.S. by Nelson Information. The rankings are used within the investment consulting industry. Seattle-based Rigel Capital provides investment management services to institutional and private clients.
