Central Washington University

Central Washington University will offer a master of science degree in engineering technology at the CWU-Lynnwood Center on the Edmonds Community College campus this fall. The degree program, including multidisciplinary classes offered by instructors with strong academic and industrial experience, is also suitable for technology education teachers and for faculty in two- or four-year colleges. Seattle-Northwest Securities

Michael A. Lewis, a former manager of public finance for Seattle-Northwest Securities, has rejoined the company. Most recently, he was with the bond counsel firm of Ater Wynne. Lewis will cover clients throughout the Pacific Northwest for the Seattle-based investment bank and bond underwriter, and will be based in the firm’s Boise office.

Litho Craft

Litho Craft of Lynnwood received a merit award for management excellence from the National Association for Printing Leadership. The awards are based on a company’s management performance as compared to professional and industry standards. Litho Craft is one of two companies in the western U.S. to receive the award.

Glacier Bay Catamarans

Glacier Bay Catamarans has been named Water Works Wonders Boat Manufacturer of the Year for 2002. The award was presented to the Monroe boatbuilder by the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation for support of its national advertising campaign using the message "water works wonders."

Association for Women in Communications

Margaret Larson was named Communicator of the Year by the Association for Women in Communications. The award honors an individual from Washington in the communications field who demonstrates consistent achievement and excellence in work and leadership abilities. Larson is currently vice president of communications at Mercy Corps. She has worked for local television news, Dateline NBC, and served as a news anchor for the Today Show.

Sheraton Seattle

The Sheraton Seattle Hotel & Towers has a new director of food and beverage. Alan Kaufman has 30 years experience in the hotel and restaurant industry, serving as director of food and beverage at the Sheraton in Tucson and executive chef at other Sheraton hotels in Chicago and Nashville.

National Frozen Foods

Susie Weber has been named director of international sales for National Frozen Foods Corp. in Seattle. She will be in charge of sales and marketing to foreign markets including Japan, China, Australia and the Middle East. She joined the company as a sales representative for puree and secondary products. The company has vegetable processor plants in Chehalis and Moses Lake as well as Albany, Ore.

Bellevue Downtown Association

The Bellevue Downtown Association last week awarded its first annual Place Making Awards that recognize downtown leaders, and announced its new brand identity and tagline: Making a Great Place Together. The winners are: John Boespflug City Builder Award, Robert Wallace of Wallace Properties; Place Maker of the Year, CollinsWoerman and Streetworks; Gutsy Move of the Year, John Howie, Seastar Restaurant; Deal Maker of the Year, Lisa Rowe, Bentall Capital; Tradition Builder, Wells Fargo; Miracle of the Year, City of Bellevue Access Downtown Team; Leadership Award, City of Bellevue; DIP Purple Heart Award, Stu Vander Hoek; Community Treasure Award, Bellevue Art Museum.

Odyssey Maritime Discovery Center

The Odyssey Maritime Discovery Center added two senior staff members to strengthen fundraising, membership, community outreach and marketing efforts: Chris Cooper as external affairs director and Caryl Zenker as development director. Cooper will oversee marketing and public relations, government affairs, the Odyssey Sea Store and special events. Zenker will oversee fundraising and membership programs. Cooper worked for Kent Youth & Family Services and United Way. Zenker worked for KPLU and the Tacoma Art Museum.

Union Gospel Mission

Seattle's Union Gospel Mission received a $50,000 matching grant from the M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust. The grant will support construction to repair damage suffered at the Men's Shelter during the Nisqually earthquake over two years ago. The Mission must raise $50,000 in donations to match the grant. Construction is currently underway but the cost is over $3 million. The Mission must raise nearly $480,000 by the end of this month to meet this cost. Last year the mission served over 440,000 meals and provided 111,431 beds to men, women and children.
