Kennewick-based Stirling Technology Co. announced it is moving from research and development into limited production so it can work on major government contracts. Steve Petersen has been named director of the operations group and will manage production resources. Peter Brehm becomes director of government programs. Brehm was managing a space engine program for NASA. Terry Smith will now manage the space engine program. Matt Cullinane joins from Capstone Turbine Corp., where he was manager of a terrestrial 55-watt generator program. Frank Faltersack is lead assembly engineer. The company makes and sells power generators and high-efficiency power technologies.
Roger Nyhus, who served as Gov. Gary Locke's communications director as well as a member of the governor's cabinet, is leaving to take a top post at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He was communications director for former Seattle Mayor Paul Schell and has worked as a communications expert in the private sector. He will be a senior advocacy officer and spokesman at the Gates Foundation.
Tom Carman joined the Seattle-based small ship cruise line as president and will oversee marketing, passenger services, hotel and marine operations. Carman is also president of Portland-based Oregon Rail Corp. Carman has been involved in design, construction and operation of passenger vehicles for 19 years.
Spokane-based Sterling Savings Bank hired James Scroggs as vice president and corporate banker. Scroggs brings 30 years' experience in banking, including work as vice president at Key Bank.
The Cultural Development Authority of King County changed its name to 4Culture. The new name reflects the agency's integration of arts, heritage, preservation and public art. Programs and staff remain the same. The agency has been providing cultural services for 35 years. Seattle stock photography company OnRequest Images appointed Mark Ippolito senior vice president of worldwide sales. Ippolito will develop business opportunities and strategic alliances. Ippolito worked for Getty Images, Photodisc and Comstock.
Broker-dealer and investment advisor McAdams Wright Ragen will open a full service office in Bellevue's Rainier Tower at 777 108th Ave. N.E. The new branch will be managed by Brian Westlund and is the first of several planned for urban markets throughout the Northwest.
Seattle law firm Betts, Patterson & Mines named Bradford Anderson to its board of directors as a member of its business practice group. Anderson was a partner in the bankruptcy group of law firm Riddell Williams. Guy Bowman has been elected to the board of directors, focusing on insurance coverage disputes and defense of property damage claims involving environmental contamination. Betts Patterson Mines now has 22 directors.
Columbia Hospitality, a Seattle-based hospitality management and consulting company, made several recent staff changes. Columbia hired Gregg Monette as a corporate executive chef. Monette will oversee the kitchen operations of Bell Harbor International Conference Center and World Trade Center Seattle. Kajsa Dilger is executive chef of the Starfish Grill at The Resort at Deer Harbor on Orcas Island. Pieter A. Koomen is director of operations for the Washington Mutual Leadership Center at Cedarbrook in SeaTac. Koomen was with Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Fla.
