Wind power is finding a market niche in the Pacific Northwest, becoming increasingly competitive with conventional coal, gas and nuclear power plants. And, even though so-called wind farms are being sited on the eastern side of the state along the Columbia River, wind energy projects are also helping the economy in Western Washington.
