Talking History: New chapter beckons for historic ‘Boys in the Boat' shell house

  • ASUW is running a capital campaign to restore the historic ASUW Shell house where ‘the boys in the boat' trained.
  • The University of Washington is renowned for its rowing team and program. A major reason for this is the storied success of the eight-oared crew of UW students that represented the United States at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.

    The UW team surprised the world, and the watching chancellor of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler, when they stormed to victory beating the Italian and German teams who had been front runners for the gold medal.
