(Re: "Port eyes investment in Eastside project" March 10 DJC) Thank you for bringing the issue of funding an expansion of Meydenbauer Center into public scrutiny and presenting commissioners' viewpoints in some context.
The question is should the Port of Seattle be involved in this $55 million real estate development? Property taxpayers subsidize the port already. This helps the port issue bonds for capital projects. However, we the public have not chartered the port as a real estate development organization. Real estate development is neither a public utility nor an arguable natural monopoly.
