Green is good. The low impact development solutions to our stormwater problems improve the environment and lower the cost of stormwater mitigation. Innovative greenwater facilities such as eco/green-roofs, rain gardens, bioretention, permeable pavement, amended soils and other solutions are the future of stormwater management.
However, we have a problem. We are making unrealistic and unsubstantiated claims about the effectiveness of these facilities. For example, some claim that eco-roofs reduce stormwater runoff by 50 percent. That sounds great, but it is not physically possible.
