Tight urban sites spawn creative excavations

  • Using a combined shoring system for the Olive 8 project's excavation saved more than $1.5 million.

    The Olive 8 hole was shored up with a combination of large soldier piles with tightly spaced soil nails in the upper portion of the excavation wall and steeply inclined tieback anchors in the lower portion.

    IT SEEMED LIKE a tall order: Excavate a tight urban site without disrupting neighboring towers or critical utility lines. And do it without busting the project budget.
