  • News you can use after 5 p.m.
  • SALEM, Ore. -- A free Choose & Cut Guide to U-Cut Christmas tree plantations in Washington and Oregon has been prepared by the Pacific Northwest Christmas Tree Association.

The 2000 guide lists 42 Oregon U-Cut tree farms and 45 U-Cut tree farms in Washington. The guides will be available free of charge at Chambers of Commerce offices, county extension offices, American Automobile Association offices in Oregon and Washington, participating YMCAs, Coldwell Banker offices and G.I. Joe's stores.

Some U-Cut farms begin operation prior to Thanksgiving weekend while the majority open the first weekend after Thanksgiving.

Information provided in the Christmas tree Choose & Cut Guide includes directions to all U-Cut tree farms, operating hours, types of trees for sale, farm phone numbers and special attractions.

Many U-Cut plantations also have gift shops, cut greens, wreaths, tree decorations, a Santa Claus, offer sleigh or wagon rides, coffee, hot chocolate and candy canes.
