SEATTLE -- Beginning the day after Thanksgiving, advanced tickets for "Titanic: The Artifact Exhibit" will be sold. Exhibit presenters are: Pacific Science Center, Seattle, RMS Titanic, Inc. and SFX Family Entertainment.
The exhibit docks in Seattle for six months from March 3 through Sept. 3, 2001, showcasing the world's largest collection of Titanic artifacts -- more than 200 -- recovered from the ocean floor.
Because the artifacts have recently been recovered, they are being displayed in a fresh water tank. This marks the first step in a meticulous restoration process, where the objects are immersed in fresh water to wash away salts that have embedded themselves over the past 88 years.
The objects will include: a First Class candy dish, an elegant Spode demitasse cup and matching dinner plate, lounge sconce patterned after those in Louis XV's personal chambers in Versailles, and a 14-inch porthole.
Would-be Titanic passengers can book passage through Ticketmaster outlets, charge by phone (206) 292-ARTS or at the Pacific Science Center box office. Cost is $15 for adults and $13 for seniors and children 3 to 13.
