SEATTLE -- JP Patches, Gertrude, Stan Boreson, Brakeman Bill, Mrs. Captain Puget and Engineer Walt. If you don't know who these folks are you better head over to the Museum of History and Industry Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. for an education on Northwest television history.
In television's early days, locally produced programs for children ruled the airwaves in this country and Seattle was no exception, with a mix of clowns, railroad engineers, a sea captain and a Scandinavian comedian. As broadcasting changed and local production budgets shrank, these home town shows were dropped.
For the first time in many years, Seattle's TV heroes are back, putting on a holiday reunion show at MOHAI with jokes, singing and clowning around. The show is free but seating is limited. Doors open at 12:30 p.m.
The show is part of MOHAI's "Home for the Holidays" exhibit, featuring nostalgic displays and programs such as vintage toys, Frederick & Nelson's department show Santa memorabilia and festive trees. For information call (206) 324-1126 or visit the MOHAI Web site at http://www.seattlehistory.org.
