The national consulting firm of Carter & Burgess, Inc., announced that Daniel Broggel has joined the firm as design manager of design services with the Seattle facilities office. Broggel will help lead Carter & Burgess’ efforts to expand design services into educational and other public facilities through business and client development. He also will take an active role in monitoring the quality of design services in the local office.
Merritt+Pardini announced that Scott Harm has been promoted to principal. Harm has been with Merritt+Pardini for a year, and is the project manager for the Greater Tacoma Convention Center. He has 20 years of architectural experience and has been an owner and principal with other architectural firms. Harm has expertise in military, recreational, industrial and commercial facilities, and with the design-build process.
Engineering firm W&H Pacific has hired a new director of land development and director of land survey in its Boise office.
David Irish is director of land development and will be responsible for managing the firm's development services for residential, resort, commercial, retail and industrial development projects. Irish joined W&H Pacific from J.L Patterson & Associates and previously lived in Boise as an employee of Morrison Knudsen.
David Short has joined W&H Pacific as director of land survey for the Boise office. Previously, Short worked for the Idaho Transportation Department as district land surveyor for 12 years. Short's experience includes more than 26 years in land surveying and expertise implementing surveying technologies such as the use of global positioning satellite technology. The new land surveying group will provide mapping, boundary and gedectic control services for the firm's clients and support W&H Pacific's land development and transportation business lines. W&H Pacific has operated in Boise since 1990.
Freiheit & Ho Architects announced the promotion of Krystal Gibbs to marketing coordinator. Gibbs is managing the firm's marketing efforts. In addition, Chris Hope, Young Im, Ben Lewis and Amanda Roberson, have joined Freiheit & Ho Architects, Inc., P.S., as architectural designers.
Bob Harn of Berger/ABAM Engineers in Federal Way was recently promoted to Grade VII project manager. Harn has 22 years of experience in the design, analysis and condition survey of a variety of building, bridge and waterfront projects. He has special expertise in seismic evaluation and design technology as it applies to new structure design and renovation. Harn received his bachelor’s in civil engineering from Montana State University.
Jeff Kilborn has been promoted to Grade V project engineer. Kilborn has 10 years of civil and structural engineering experience with waterfront/marine, transportation and building facilities projects. He has a strong background in specifications writing, cost estimates and construction inspection for transportation facilities projects.
Jerry Waldron has been promoted to Grade IV senior engineer. Waldron is skilled in the analysis and design of waterfront and public works facilities projects constructed in concrete, timber and steel. His expertise also includes permitting assistance, construction inspection and field engineering.
GeoEngineers of Redmond announced the promotions of Fran Yost to associate, Shaun Stauffer to senior II geotechnical engineer, Matt Smith to senior I geotechnical engineer and Mary Ann Reinhart to senior I geologist.
Yost is the corporate marketing director for GeoEngineers’ 11 regional offices. Stauffer began his career with GeoEngineers in 1993 and has become an expert in soil nail wall excavation. Smith has six years experience with landslides, bridges and retaining structures and was instrumental in managing the design of the I-90 Sunset interchange improvement project. Reinhart holds nine years of geological experience. She is an expert in fluvial geomorphology and sediment transport and has been a leader in GeoEngineers’ water resource services.
Systems Interface Inc. announced the addition or two project engineers. Marcus Lee will be joining the Bothell office and Mark Huber will be joining the Tigard, Ore. operation. Each will be involved in the design, test and programming of industrial control systems and manufacturing enterprise solutions.
Prior to joining Systems Interface, Lee was an independent electrical contractor and a project engineer for Harbor Pacific Contractors in Woodinville. Huber was vice president of Dynasys Inc. in Salem, Ore. and Diversified Control Systems Inc. in Eugene. Systems Interface Inc. is a professional engineering corporation that formulates solutions for industrial control systems. Systems Interface also has offices in Bothell and Olathe, Kansas.
Ginette Lalonde recently joined Parsons Brinckerhoff as assistant engineer working in the environmental department. Lalonde's current projects are SR 167 and SR 240 for Washington State Department of Transportation and South Sacramento light rail corridor for Sacramento Regional Transit District.
AHBL, Inc. on Sept. 17 opened its Seattle branch office in Pioneer Square. Michael Kattermann has been named managing associate. He will oversee public and private projects, with an emphasis on services for local governments. Duane Dietz will join the Seattle office as senior landscape architect. He has 11 years of professional experience, and has worked on a variety of zoos, wetland restoration and community-based design projects. Both Seattle and Tacoma offices provide civil and structural engineering, urban and land planning, landscape architecture and land surveying services. The Federal Bureau of Investigation awarded PC Pros of Lakewood a $500,000 contract. The FBI will extend its use of PC Pros' forensic image tracking software and digital imaging filters by installing workstations in Washington, D.C., in October.
VoteHere has named Harry Samkange vice president of marketing. Samkange is the former executive vice president of vCustomer Corp. VoteHere, based in Bellevue, is a supplier of election software and services.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation awarded Seattle Children's Home a $200,000 grant. The grant will be used, in part, to support a full time developmental pediatrician. Seattle Children's Home will also be partnering with the University of Washington's Center on Human Development and Disability to establish the Assessment Center of the Continuum of Care as a model center for integrated assessment of physical and behavioral health needs.
The Seattle Cancer Treatment & Wellness Center has moved to 122 16th Ave. E., east of the Group Health Central campus on Capitol Hill. The center was previously located in the Cabrini Medical Tower. The new facility triples the previous floor space. Callison Architects created the interior design and Howard S. Wright Construction Co. was the general contractor.
