Kent-based Sterlitech has acquired the silver metal membrane product line for Osmonics, Inc. The pure metallic silver membranes are used in a variety of filtration applications and are specified by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health for the appraisal of asbestos contamination.
Bastyr University appointed Kevin Conroy, ND to its core faculty. Conroy served in the Coast Guard and the Peace Corps prior to receiving his doctorate from Bastyr in 1999.
Shawn M. Yates joined the Seattle office of Bullivant Houser Bailey as a member of the firm's insurance practice group. Bullivant Houser Bailey has six West Coast offices including Vancouver, Wash.; Seattle and Portland.
Dr. George A. Gates has been appointed scientific director of the Deafness Research Foundation. Gates is professor of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery of the Virginia Merrill Bloedell Hearing Research Center at the University of Washington. As DRF scientific director, Gates will oversee research grants and chair the board of scientific trustees in setting research policies and foundations.
Atlanta-based Mirant has signed a letter of intent to acquire a 50 percent interest in the 280-megawatt Coyote Springs power project from Avista Corp. The plant, currently under construction near Boardman, Ore., is scheduled to begin operating in mid-2002. The two companies will share equally in the costs of construction and operation of the plant and will jointly own the project

The following have joined the law firm of Ogden Murphy Wallace: Wes Watson Jr. has joined the healthcare practice group as of counsel, Thomas C. Overcast has joined as of counsel in the Wenatchee office, Nick M. Beermann has joined the Seattle office as an associate, and Camilla Glatt and Mary Cusak have joined the Wenatchee office as associates. Ogden Murphy Wallace is a multi-specialty law firm operating offices in Seattle and Wenatchee.
As part of the grand opening ceremonies of the Rochester Big & Tall Clothing store at 1801 Fifth Ave. in Seattle, the company has donated $5,000 to the Hope Heart Institute. The store celebrated its opening with the cutting of a Robert Talbot, 40-foot silk tie and is holding a silent auction at the new store with items on display through Oct. 29. Proceeds from the auction will also be donated to the Hope Heart Institute.
An operation agreement for the Berth 2 Bulk Handling Facility at the Port of Longview has switched to Kinder Morgan Bulk Terminals from International Raw Materials. Kinder Morgan Bulk Terminals, headquartered in Sorrento, La., operates over 30 dry bulk facilities in the U.S. specializing in bulk materials handling, storage and transfer. International Raw Materials had operated the facility since 1981
