Stainer will oversee projects from design to completion, and be involved in client retention. He is currently working on the 132,600-square-foot Iron Mountain Seaway warehouse in Everett. He joined DCI Engineers in 1994 and has eight years of structural design experience.
Bush, Roed & Hitchings, a 60-person civil engineering and land surveying firm in Seattle, has hired two staff members. Tim Dimof, an engineer, joined the firm as project manager. He has eight years experience. Current assignments include Avalon on the Square, a mid-rise retail and residential mixed-use project in Bellevue, an Equiva fuel station in Bothell and the Olympic Place road re-alignment project in Arlington.
Aaron Sherry has joined the firm as a design engineer. Sherry has three years engineering experience. Current projects include 12th and Columbia, a retail and residential mixed-use project in Seattle, an office building on Tract 43 in Bothell and the Pine Lake Covenant Church gymnasium and school in Sammamish.
NewsBriefs:Clark/Kjos Architects has promoted project managers Sue Lang, Eric Thomson and Alex Hill to associates. CKA has also expanded staff with architect Sally Valentine, project manager Matthew Spicer, intern architect Beth Cheatham and administrative assistant Lauren Ehuebuske. CKA plans and designs facilities for health care, institutions, commerce and housing from offices in Seattle and Portland.

Sarah Hacker was hired as marketing coordinator. Hacker is responsible for a number of marketing functions, including proposal preparation, graphic design, public relations and managing marketing materials. Also new to the firm is Ross Lackey, who was hired as an intern. Lackey graduated with a professional Bachelor of Architecture from Auburn University in Alabama.
Sarah MacDonald was promoted from intern to design team member. MacDonald joined TH&A in June 2000, after graduating from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Architecture.
In addition to TH&A’s work for Portland Community College’s Rock Creek Campus and the University of California, current projects include the new library at Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga, the New Experimental Theater for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland and the new Hillsdale and Hollywood Branch Libraries for Multnomah County Library.
Heery International, an international design, engineering and construction management firm, has named Ricky Langford as Portland area manager.
Langford will manage operations in Oregon, southern Washington and Boise. In addition, she will continue as management advisor on Sea-Tac's $10 billion capital improvement program, a role she has held since joining Heery’s Seattle office two years ago
The Associated General Contractors of Washington will host its annual holiday open house and public officials reception on Dec. 10 from 5-7:30 p.m. The event also supports the Toys for Tots program. Merrill Gardens has promoted four to vice president, operations: Karen Gorsuch, former regional director of operations; Samantha Hollister, former director of operations; and Suzanne Wyse, former director of operations; and Steve Martin, who joined the company earlier this year. Merrill Gardens owns and operates 61 assisted-living retirement communities in 15 states and is based in Seattle.
The mayor's office appointed two new park commissioners: Kate Pflaumer, former U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington and Sarah Nielson, grant writer for People of Puget Sound. Both have been named to a three-year term on the seven-member board which advises on matters relating to parks and recreation to the mayor, city council and superintendent.
A new program, Community Nights at Schools, allows noncommercial community groups access to public schools for meetings and events. Currently, 26 schools are available for reservations. The program charges a $10 booking fee. Groups using the program are encouraged to donate time and resources to the schools they use. Starbucks newest location at Westlake Center is open after a re-model of the space previously housing Seattle's Best Coffee. The store on the plaza was designed to be bright and open. Starbucks expects the store to play a key roll in upcoming downtown holiday events. Starbucks is accepting toy donations to its Holiday Angels Toy Drive at this and all locations.
Four owners of established firms have formed a joint venture to provide marketing services specifically for owners and operators of golf-related businesses. Principals of the new venture are Cheri Brennan, Ron Hansen, Don Morgan and Rob Perry. Hansen is founder of Ron Hansen Strategic Branding, in Mukilteo; Brennan is founder of Alliance Communications; Morgan is a partner at GMA Research; and Perry is the founder of Rob Perry Photography, Bellevue. The four will continue operating their businesses.
University of Washington Physicians Network has named Dr. Henry G. "Rennie" Coit, Jr. chief operating officer. Coit was previously with Regence Blue Shield in Seattle, where he was medical director. The Physicians Network operates eight UW Physicians Neighborhood Clinics in King County
