Charter Bank announced Vincent P. Tilotta, Steve Linde and Stacy Sullivan have joined as new vice presidents. Tilotta will serve in the Kent office, and was previously vice president and commercial lending officer at Heritage Bank. Linde will serve in the Bellevue office. Linde was previously with US Bank and People's Bank. Sullivan will join the Bellevue office and was previously vice president of operations at Bay Bank.
Tony Craig of the Mayflower Hotel has been named Star of the Industry by the Washington State Hotel and Lodging Association. Craig has been with the Mayflower since 1983 and is a two-time recipient of its employee of the year award. Craig is a houseman supervisor.
Mayor Paul Schell appointed Kristine Castleman to be acting executive director of the Seattle Arts Commission. Castleman will assume the position Dec. 8, following the departure of current executive director Susan B. Trapnell. Trapnell was recently named managing director at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. Castleman has served as the chief financial officer and deputy director of the Seattle Arts Commission since January 1999, following three years of policy and fiscal analysis of arts, libraries and parks issues for the Seattle budget office. A permanent executive director will be selected by Mayor-elect Greg Nickels.
Angela R. Bagby and Dina J. Wong have joined the firm of Thorsrud Cane & Paulich as associate attorneys. Bagby is a 1997 graduate of the University of Oregon School of Law, and Wong is a 2000 graduate of the Seattle University School of Law.
The Body Shop has opened a new store at the Alderwood Mall. The store is the first of the chain's outlets to feature its new design that incorporates natural and sustainable materials, such as a bamboo grass floor, hemp textiles and Parallam engineered lumber. The Body Shop, based in England, has 1,900 outlets in 50 countries.
The University of Washington will offer six new certificate programs this winter. Most programs last four to 12 months, with classes in the evening or weekends, or via distance learning. Starting in January, the new programs are: Game Development, Wireless Web Development, Environmental Regulation, Business Foundations and Windows 2000 Server Administration. James Tupper has joined the Seattle office of Stoel Rives. His practice will concentrate on environmental compliance. Tupper recently retired from the Pollution Control Hearings Board and the Shorelines Hearings Board.
Dr. James Kho is now regional vice president at DeVry University. Kho is current president of DeVry's Fremont, Calif., campus and will remain in that role. As regional vice president, Kho will oversee DeVry's West Coast campuses in Federal Way and California. DeVry offers degree and diploma programs in technology and technology-based business.
The Evergreen Professional Center has added Dr. Jean Drydell to its staff. Drydell will practice obstetrics and gynecology at the center's Kirkland location. Drydell's practice was previously based in Everett.
Gov. Gary Locke has elevated King County Superior Court Judge Ann Schindler to the state Court of Appeals, Division I. Schindler, who has served on the Superior Court for 10 years, replaces appeals judge Walter Webster, who is retiring after 17 years. She will assume the new post Jan. 1, at an annual salary of $125,236 and stand for election next fall.
Torrefazione Italia Coffee has opened its newest cafe in downtown Seattle's Financial Center Building, on the corner of Fourth and University. The cafe features mahogany furnishings, custom glasswork and serves coffee in hand-painted ceramics. Torrefazione is part of Seattle Coffee Co., a subsidiary of AFC Enterprises.
The Northwest Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association has been named the chapter of the year. The award is given to the chapter that has demonstrated excellence during the past year in membership, programming, community service and communication. TMA is an international nonprofit association dedicated to the development of stronger economy through corporate renewal.
Susan L. Weider is the new dean of student services at Bastyr University. Previously, Weider was associate dean of students at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore. Weider replaces Sandy Voit, who served as dean of student services for 19 years and was the first to hold the position. Bastyr University, based in Kenmore, is an accredited institution in the study of natural healing
