Western Washington University

Gov. Gary Locke appointed Peggy Zoro to Western Washington University's board of trustees. Zoro is president of the Western Washington University Foundation board of directors and is senior vice president and regional manager for Whidbey Island Bank. Her term will begin Jan. 1, 2003, and continue until Sept. 30, 2008.

Lane Powell Spears Lubersky

Michele A. Wong joined the law firm of Lane Powell Spears Lubersky in its Seattle office as an associate in the business group. Wong is a recent graduate of the University of Washington Law School. She was previously an extern for Judge Anne Ellington and was a marketing programs associate at Sun Microsystems.

CDi Engineers

Erik Pierson is the new information systems manager for CDi Engineers. Pierson will be involved in needs assessments, research and selection of hardware and software, as well as recommendations for new technology throughout CDi’s operations. He graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in business administration, and was previously IT operations manager for Metawave Communication.

Kim Bun recently joined CDi’s CAD department. Bun brings 20 years of drafting experience in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, piping, fire protection and circuiting systems to her position as CAD technician.

CDi Engineers is a mechanical consulting firm with a staff of nearly 50, based in Lynnwood.

Quantum Consulting Engineers

Jack Wiggins, Dan Fenton and Jim DeSalvo recently announced they have formed Quantum Consulting Engineers, a new structural engineering firm in downtown Seattle. Wiggins is a principal with the firm and has 18 years of structural engineering expertise, including commercial, mixed-use, residential, educational and community buildings. He is currently working on structural designs for the University of Washington Merrill Hall reconstruction, Northwest Maritime Center and Skagit Transportation Center.

Fenton is a principal and has 23 years of structural design expertise, specializing in commercial and institutional facilities. He recently completed structural designs for The Red Door renovation/relocation in Fremont and the 273,000-square-foot Lexus of Bellevue dealership/office building. He is working on the new Riverview Church in Kent.

DeSalvo is a principal and has 30 years of structural engineering expertise for a wide variety of design, seismic retrofit and investigation-based projects. His work includes industrial, commercial, institutional and residential buildings. He is currently working on the J&M Building addition and seismic upgrade, as well as numerous industrial projects.

BJSS Duarte Bryant

BJSS Duarte Bryant announced that Yelena Semenova has passed the licensing exams and is now a registered architect in Washington. She is working on the Monroe Corrections Center Regional Training Building and the Twin Rivers Unit Industries Building. BJSS Duarte Bryant is 41-year-old architecture and planning firm with offices in Seattle and Olympia

Association of Washington Business

The Association of Washington Business named 15 companies as recipients of its 2002 Better Workplace Awards. The awards honor companies for innovations in workplace safety, job training and advancement programs, and benefit and compensation programs. Top honors went to Milgard Windows of Tacoma, Schweitzer Engineering Labs of Pullman and Pacific Seafood of Mukilteo. Other winners include: Echo Bay Minerals Co., Kettle River/Republic; Canyon Creek Cabinet Co., Monroe; Waste Management, Kirkland; Fluor Hanford., Richland; The Everett Clinic, Everett; Stevens Pass Ski Area, Skykomish; Ppi-WA., Union Gap; Shields Bag and Printing, Yakima; TransAlta Centralia Generation, Centralia; Underwriters Laboratories, Camas; Metropolitan Mortgage and Securities, Spokane; and WRQ, Seattle.

Lynden International

Lynden International, a division of Lynden Air Freight, appointed Tom Clifford director of business development, Asia. Clifford will be based at Lynden's corporate office in Seattle. Clifford joins Lynden via Schenker, where he served most recently as western regional vice president of sales. Since January, Lynden International has opened 13 offices located in Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.

GeneMax

Dr. Wilfred Jefferies has been named chairman of the board of directors at Blaine-based GeneMax. Jefferies is the company's chief scientific officer. The company also appointed Dr. Julia Levy chair of it's scientific advisory board, and Dr. Karl Erik Hellstrom a member of it's board of directors. GeneMax specializes in the discovery and development of immunotherapeutics aimed at the treatment and eradication of cancer.
