El Gaucho Tacoma hired Tony Capra as general manager. Capra has worked in the hospitality industry for 20 years at restaurants including Salty's on Alki and Ivar's Salmon House on Lake Union.
GA Creative in Bellevue, a graphic design and marketing firm, named Jeff Welsh as its first-ever design director. Welsh was senior designer and has worked at GA since 1999. He will now oversee the work of graphic design teams.
The Washington Small Business Development Center presented three certified business advisors with the Ron Battles Excellence Award. They are Kathleen Purdy of the Olympic Peninsula SBDC, John Rodenberg of the Tacoma SBDC and Zev Siegl of the Highline Community College SBDC. All three provide no-fee, confidential advising to clients on aspects of business.
Club Cielo, a new private club in Seattle, hired David Cecil as general manager. Cecil will manage the 25,000-square-foot members only club, which will be located in the new Escala condominium tower at Fourth Avenue and Virginia Street. Cecil worked at the Washington Mutual Leadership Center at Cedarbrook.

Seattle Chocolate Co. hired Rob Alsbury as director of sales for the West Region. Alsbury has 15 years of confection experience in sales and marketing. Seattle Chocolate Co. manufactures truffles, truffle bars, dessert shells, and chocolates under the Seattle Chocolates and Chick Chocolates brands.
Berk & Associates, a public policy and management consultancy, hired Julia Bosch as a policy analyst in the Strategic Planning and Policy Development Practice.
Cascadia Community College in Bothell hired Ray Kubista as director of community education. Kubista worked at Bellevue Community College for seven years.
SonoSite of Bothell, an ultrasound company, hired Bernard J. Pitz as senior vice president and chief financial officer. Pitz has 26 years of global finance experience and last worked at Sybron Dental Specialties. He replaces Mike Schuh, who will move into a new executive position in the company overseeing business process.
Security Properties recently sold the Hearthstone at Merrill Creek housing complex in Snohomish County to UDR, Inc. for $38 million or $172,727 per unit. CB Richard Ellis' Jon Hallgrimson and Frank Bosl represented Security Properties. Hearthstone at Merrill Creek was completed in 2000. It has 220 units on a 14-acre site.

Don Jury of Jury Business Investments in Kirkland has been awarded the SRA designation for appraisers involved in the valuation and analysis of residential real estate by the Appraisal Institute. He joined the Appraisal Institute in 2004 and was awarded the SRA in March. SRA appraisers have an advanced level of expertise and experience. Jury has 28 years of experience as a licensed real estate broker and 16 years as a certified residential appraiser.
Property owners, developers, architects, engineers and real estate professionals are invited to “Seattle Landmarks: History for Some, Burden for Others” on Thursday, June 12, at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel. The breakfast forum will feature professionals from Lane Powell and Callison addressing the risks and opportunities associated with owning, developing or remodeling buildings that are 25 years or older under the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Ordinance.
