The Seattle office of regional law firm Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt hired Claire Been as an associate in the commercial litigation practice group. She was a summer associate with Schwabe, and also worked in the risk management department at Vulcan.
Tulalip Resort Casino named Melinda Lewis catering sales manager. Lewis will coordinate bookings for corporate meetings and events, develop new clients and represent the casino at community and industry events. She was director of catering at the Embassy Suites Hotel at Sea-Tac.
Rod Dembowski, a member in Foster Pepper's Litigation, Real Estate and Financial Institutions practice groups, has been selected co-chair of the American Bar Association's Real Estate Litigation Committee, Section of Litigation, for 2010-2011. The committee is involved with real estate disputes, including ownership, purchase and sale, title, casualty and land use.
After opening in West Seattle last year, The Andover School will open a second preschool location on Mercer Island this fall. The Andover School is a year-round preschool for ages 2 through pre-K. The focus is on kindergarten preparedness as well as dramatic play, cooking and creativity.

Lisa Schauer to be the first female partner in its 36-year history. Schauer has been with the firm for 10 years, and is a leader in business development and marketing. She is a contributing author to Zweig White's national newsletter Marketing Now, and is on the boards of Columbia Credit Union and Children's Center. M&S offers civil engineering, land and construction surveying, land-use planning, landscape architecture and construction management services, with offices in Vancouver, Kennewick, Salt Lake City, and Wilsonville and Bend, Ore.
McGranahan Architects promoted
Mark Bergquist, Steve Broback, Darrin Filand and
Ko Wibowo to associate. Bergquist has been with McGranahan for 25 years with a focus on project management, construction documents and construction administration. His projects include Arlington High School and the South Campus Academic Building at Bates Technical College. Broback has been with the firm for 19 years, leading development of technical specifications and providing construction administration. His projects include the Washington State Department of Ecology headquarters in Lacey and Lake Washington High School. Filand has worked for the firm for 13 years, though not continuously. He was lead designer of the Aviation Trades Building for Clover Park Technical College and Harned Hall at Saint Martin's University. Wibowo has 12 years with McGranahan. He was lead designer on the Sharon McGavick Student Center at Clover Park Technical College and the Communication Building renovation at Evergreen State College.

George Schmidt as chief financial officer and
Jason Walker as environmental and community planning manager. Schmidt has 20 years of financial and operational experience and has worked on accounting, budgeting, reporting and strategic business planning. Most recently he was CFO/principal for SE Group in Bellevue, where he also did financial, market and operational analysis consulting. Walker is a landscape architect, planner and environmental permit coordinator with 18 years local project experience. He has helped permit residential, commercial, institutional and utility projects and has experience obtaining federal environmental determinations and permits associated with marine, aquatic and land resources. Perteet is an employee-owned consulting firm specializing in engineering, planning, environmental and survey projects. It has offices in Everett, Seattle and Snoqualmie.
John Haney of GeoEngineers' Spokane office was promoted to senior environmental engineer.
Matt Peterson transferred from the Redmond office to the Spokane office as a geotechnical, special inspection and testing field technician.
Dan Looney of Art Anderson Associates earned his Washington professional engineer license. A retired U.S. Navy captain hired in 2008, Looney has worked on naval architecture and marine engineering contracts, including as project manager for the NOAA Fleet Greening Study. The study investigates ways to improve energy efficiency and the environmental footprint of the NOAA fleet of research vessels. Art Anderson is based in Bremerton with offices in Portland and Columbus, Ohio.
