The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency named Jones Lang LaSalle a 2011 Energy Star Partner of the Year. The company was honored for maintaining 100 percent participation in Energy Star across all investor-owned and retail mall properties; earning the Energy Star for 118 managed properties that total more than 43 million square feet; and reducing energy consumption by 5 percent across a managed portfolio of more than 150 million square feet. Commercial real estate group NAIOP's annual Real Estate Challenge is at 7 a.m., Wednesday at the Westin Seattle, 1900 Fifth Ave. Teams from area universities have studied the site at Second Avenue and Pine Street and will recommend what they think owner Starwood Capital Group should do with it. Starwood started excavating the site for a $250 million luxury hotel-condo tower on the site but halted construction in 2008 when the economy faltered. The Vancouver, B.C., Real Estate Forum is April 7 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West. Organizers say some of the most influential names in the industry will look at Canadian and U.S. real estate and where capital is being invested; development in Vancouver as well as secondary markets, such as Victoria and Whistler, B.C.; the multi-family market; and how U.S. retailers are affecting Vancouver's retail. JayRay, a Tacoma-based communications consultant, hired Paul Edwards to its team. Edwards has been a writer, editor and was formerly in command of the U.S. Army Reserve's 304th Public Affairs Detachment in Seattle.
Northwest Kidney Centers, a Seattle-based nonprofit that provides 80 percent of the dialysis care in King and Clallam counties, named five new medical directors to supervise overall patient care in particular areas. Pamila Keech is medical director of Northwest Kidney Centers' peritoneal dialysis program. Robert Winrow is medical director of Northwest Kidney Centers' home hemodialysis program. Michael Tasch is medical director of Snoqualmie Ridge Kidney Center. Annemarie Dooley is medical director of Lake Washington Kidney Center in Bellevue. Bonnie Collins is medical director of the community dialysis unit at Seattle Kidney Center on Capitol Hill.
Powerit Solutions, a Seattle-based cleantech company that plugs energy-intensive businesses into the smart grid, hired Matthew Schiltz as group CEO. Schiltz was president and CEO of DocuSign. With his arrival, the firm has secured an additional $5 million round of investor funding.
Banner Bank promoted Kirk Johnson to senior vice president/relationship manager. Johnson has 25 years of banking experience. Prior to joining Banner Bank in 2005 he worked with Washington Mutual Bank.
