Mark Hugh, a Bellevue-based certified public accountant with 21 years of experience, has been named chairman of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants for 2011-2012. Hugh is the principal of Mark Hugh & Associates, and is a frequent trainer and speaker.
The Puget Sound Regional Council elected Kitsap County Commissioner Josh Brown as president and Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy as vice president. Brown chaired the PSRC Operations Committee for the past two years. McCarthy has served on PSRC's Executive Board since her election in 2008. In February, she became vice chair of the Transportation Policy Board.
Cairncross & Hempelmann hired Margaret Breen as of counsel in the hospitality, travel and tourism practice. Breen has 12 years of experience working with private entities, with an emphasis on emerging and entrepreneurial business. She previously worked at Stoel Rives and Preston Thorgrimson Shidler Gates and Ellis, now K&L Gates.
DCI Engineers promoted Danielle Jacobs to project manager. Additionally, it hired Mathew Wies as a project manager, John W. Cherry as a civil project engineer, Geanina Racolta as a structural CAD designer, Curtis Dyer as a civil CAD designer, and Patrick Lindblom and Kyle Holman as structural project engineers. Jacobs has been a DCI Seattle employee since 2006, and was promoted from structural project engineer. She works on commercial and municipal projects, including The Bravern. Wies is returning to DCI with 13 years of engineering experience. He will do design, client work, and review ongoing projects. He is designing structures for heavy mining operations at the Caserones Copper Mine in Chile. Cherry has 14 years of engineering experience and is working on Redmond Square Apartments. Racolta is returning to the firm with five years of experience as a CAD designer. She is working on the Morton General Hospital. Dyer is returning to DCI with 21 years in civil engineering and surveying, and is working on Seluca Professional Center. Lindblom is returning to the firm with three years of engineering experience and is working on Bellevue Park 2. Holman has a master's in civil engineering from Washington State University and is working on the Swinomish Hotel. Seattle-based DCI has offices in Spokane, Everett, Portland, San Diego and Austin.
GeoEngineers hired Alex Levell as a staff fluvial geomorphologist, Jacob Letts as an engineering geologist, Stephen Godes as a senior field technician and Mackenzie Garton as an intern in its Redmond office. Tom Hastings was hired as a staff water resources engineer in Bellingham and Claudia De La Via as an intern in Seattle. In Tacoma, the firm hired Jamie Michel as a staff biologist and Rich Gwozdz as a GIS application developer. GeoEngineers is an earth science and technology consulting firm with offices nationwide.
ALSC Architects hired Nathan Jenkins as a senior project designer and Jeff Lane as an architectural intern. Jenkins has 13-plus years of experience in mixed-use, hospitality and commercial projects. Lane has 11 years of experience in K-12 and higher education projects, and is working on Grant Elementary School. The planning and design firm has offices in Spokane and Coeur d'Alene.
BrN Engineering hired Berne Thorpe as an engineer/vice president. Thorpe has 30-plus years of experience in electrical plans and specifications for public, health care, multifamily, commercial, educational, institutional and petroleum markets. His work includes Amgen-Helix and King Abdullah University of Science & Technology.

John Wescott joined Cochran Inc. as business development manager. Wescott's construction background includes working as a project manager and consultant. He most recently served as director of strategy for a large electrical contractor in the South.
General contractor BNBuilders recently won a 2011 Design Build Award from the Western Pacific Region of the Design-Build Institute of America. BNBuilders was cited for its work on a $16.8 million project for the University of California, Davis that included a winery, brewery and food pilot plant. The project used BIM to model all MEP, architectural and structural systems prior to the start of construction. BNBuilders has offices in Washington, California and Montana.
Mike Carter, lead administrator of Swedish/Edmonds, is now chief administrative officer of Swedish's First Hill campus, the largest in the five-hospital network. Carter became CEO of Stevens Hospital in 2006, now Swedish/Edmonds. He has 30 years of experience. David Jaffe will serve as interim chief administrator at Swedish/Edmonds for six months. Jaffe was CEO of Harborview for 16 years and has been working with Swedish on a contract basis since last year.
Hotel Five, previously the Ramada at Fifth Avenue and Blanchard Street in Seattle, is the newest property owned and managed by Pineapple Hospitality, which is the new hospitality division of Columbia West Properties. It is based in Bellevue and manages four Seattle properties including the Maxwell Hotel, University Inn and Watertown.
The Fearey Group, a Seattle public relations and public affairs firm, hired Sierra Hansen as account supervisor. Hansen has 15 years of experience with communication, outreach and advocacy programs. She was a legislative aide for Seattle Council Member Mike O'Brien.
Clarks Companies will open a 2,400-square-foot Clarks store in Pacific Place on Aug. 25. Clarks will be on Level 3 and feature the chain's global store design.
