Yesterday, the city's Landmarks Preservation Board heard yet another briefing on the proposed redevelopment of the nearly 18-acre Battelle/Talaris campus in Laurelhurst. The property at 4000 N.E. 41st St. went on the market nearly five years ago. It has single-family zoning, in one of the city's priciest zip codes.
What was once an old bog, owned by the University of Washington, was developed as the Battelle Memorial Institute campus from 1965 to 1971. It's now apparently vacant, ruled by coyotes and crows.
