Central Oregon Community College has opened its first new dorm in nearly 50 years.
The 84,000-square-foot residence hall opened in September on the Bend campus, with 330 beds.
It was build into a steep hillside. Most of the structure is four stories, with a five-story section in the center.
There are 83 two-bedroom suites, and many rooms have views of Mount Bachelor and Three Sisters mountain range.
Study areas and a bonus room for storing mountain bikes and other outdoor equipment are included, and there is a double-sided hearth in between the lounge and the community kitchen.
Native landscaping and minimal irrigation were used. The structure has a higher level of insulation; Energy Star lighting and appliances; low-VOC paints, sealants and adhesives; and low-flow plumbing fixtures. It is certified Earth Advantage Gold.
