Look out for the low cost trap

When I was a little kid, one of my favorite television programs was "Lost in Space." Each week I could hardly wait to see what new perils Dr. Smith would blunder into, and how a young Will Robinson and his trusty robot would jump to his rescue. After some 40 years I can still see Will's robot waving his slinky metal arms and shouting out in his computerized, monotone voice, Danger! Danger! Danger!

Well, it's time to bring back the robot! Almost daily I see firms imperiled by the vicious landmines that lurk about in the arena of professional services. Given the gravity of the situation, the next few columns will expose several of these insidious pitfalls.
