The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency named Jones Lang LaSalle a 2011 Energy Star Partner of the Year. The company was honored for maintaining 100 percent participation in Energy Star across all investor-owned and retail mall properties; earning the Energy Star for 118 managed properties that total more than 43 million square feet; and reducing energy consumption by 5 percent across a managed portfolio of more than 150 million square feet. Commercial real estate group NAIOP's annual Real Estate Challenge is at 7 a.m., Wednesday at the Westin Seattle, 1900 Fifth Ave. Teams from area universities have studied the site at Second Avenue and Pine Street and will recommend what they think owner Starwood Capital Group should do with it. Starwood started excavating the site for a $250 million luxury hotel-condo tower on the site but halted construction in 2008 when the economy faltered. The Vancouver, B.C., Real Estate Forum is April 7 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West. Organizers say some of the most influential names in the industry will look at Canadian and U.S. real estate and where capital is being invested; development in Vancouver as well as secondary markets, such as Victoria and Whistler, B.C.; the multi-family market; and how U.S. retailers are affecting Vancouver's retail. Seattle-based Colliers International named David Kotansky managing director of the Portland region. He was COO at Portland-based Felton Properties, and earlier was a director at institutional real estate investment company RREEF, where he managed 40 people in five Northwest offices.
New property management company Chamberlain Properties opened in Seattle in Suite E506 of 200 W. Mercer St. Brad LeCompte, the designated broker, has worked as a property manager in Seattle, primarily in office, retail and medical properties management. He previously worked for Cascade Pacific Real Estate Services. Paul LeCompte is a property manager with Chamberlain.

Denis Hayes, president of the Bullitt Foundation, will be the guest speaker at the April 13 Top of the Town, Capitol Hill Housing's annual fund-raising dinner at the Sorrento Hotel in Seattle. Hayes founded the Earth Day Network and expanded it to more than 180 nations, and was head of the Solar Energy Research Institute during the Carter administration. Jenna McDonald was promoted to director of operations for EMB Management, a Bellevue-based company that manages residential community associations in the Puget Sound area. She was CFO.
Ron Peterson of NorthMarq Capital's Bellevue office arranged first mortgage financing of nearly $7.8 million for Monterey Apartments, a 60-unit property at 10212 N.E. 68th St., Kirkland. Financing was based on a 10-year term with a 30-year amortization schedule and was arranged for the borrower by NorthMarq through its seller-servicer relationship with Freddie Mac. The transaction is a refinance of an existing Freddie Mac loan. The borrower locked in a long-term rate of 4.88 percent 90 days prior to funding. The loan provided what Peterson said was a significant cash-out.
