For 19 years the Seattle Post-Intelligencer's landmark globe has rested atop the newspaper's building on the waterfront. Before that, it crowned the paper's Sixth and Wall headquarters for almost 40 years. Now there's chatter among brokers that the 18.5-ton icon could have a new home.
The Hearst-owned newspaper, which is engaged in a fierce battle for survival with The Seattle Times, is rumored to be hunting for a new office. Our source says the P-I, now in a Sabey-owned building, is seeking between 30,000 and 40,000 square feet, and that the newspaper is working with Larry Blackett and Chris Moe of GVA Kidder Mathews. Blackett confirms he and Moe represent the paper, but he referred all other questions to P-I Business Manager John Currie, who declined to comment.
