Tilley

Cochran Inc. has promoted Chad Tilley to vice president of engineering. Since joining Cochran in 1990 as a project designer, Tilley has been the lead engineer on many projects, including the IQSB Rosen Building Remodel, Boeing Commercial Airplane Group Headquarters Office Building and the McCaw Cellular wireless data center. In his new role, he will oversee the engineering division while continuing his design duties.

The Nielsen-Wurster Group

Jack Dignum, senior vice president of The Nielsen-Wurster Group, has become a shareholder of the company. Seattle-based Dignum is the division manager for management consulting services and is the chief operations officer for Pegasus Consulting, a subsidiary. Nielsen-Wurster is based in Princeton, N.J., with offices across the country and in Australia and Italy. It provides consultant and expert witness services to the construction and engineering industries.

Harris Group

Chris L. Thompson has been named CEO of the consulting engineering firm Harris Group Inc. Former CEO Bob Harris, who has held executive leadership positions since the Seattle-based company's foundation as Schuchart & Associates in 1975, remains chairman of the board.

Named president of Harris Group in the spring of 2000, Thompson immediately announced plans for a restructuring into five market sector-focused business units. In 2001, its first full year under the new structure, Harris Group's domestic revenues were a record high $45.1 million despite downturns in four of five market sectors it serves.

"Like everybody else, we took our lumps in 2001 -- but the energy sector saved us," Thompson said.

With Harris Group since 1989, Thompson was chief financial officer prior to becoming president. He joined the company as one of three co-founders of the Denver office (which has grown to 140 people). Based in Seattle, Harris Group has nine offices in the U.S. and a sister company, AO Harris Group International, in St. Petersburg, Russia.

DKA

Debra Ching recently joined DKA as a senior interior designer and project manager. She has 24 years of experience in programming, corporate space planning, tenant improvements and custom home interior design, most recently as a sole proprietor. At DKA, Ching is the lead interior designer for Seattle Housing Authority’s North Facilities Center, the city of Seattle’s Park 90/5 project, and a new Rainier Branch facility for Asian Counseling and Referral Service. DKA offers comprehensive planning, architecture, interior architecture, interior design and space planning to public and private clients.

MulvannyG2 Architecture recently hired Frank Heffernan as senior project manager and Heather Hanh Yamamoto as project manager at its Bellevue office.

Heffernan will oversee design for the firm's commercial, industrial and retail clients. His project experience includes several retail stores at the Olympic Gateway Plaza in Aberdeen, several Les Schwab Tire Centers and the 58,000-square-foot Span Alaska Building in Monroe.

Yamamoto will manage commercial, industrial and retail projects. Her project experience includes the Olympic Gateway Plaza master plan, the 63,000-square-foot Rudeen Business Park in Monroe and the 78,000-square-foot Remco Seaway Center in Everett.

Opsis Architecture

Opsis Architecture of Portland has announced the addition of eight key staff members: Adam Christie, Nancy Hiss, Halliday Meisburger, Irene Ng, Brandon Sanchez, Pat Sanchez, Jeff Stern and Mark Stoller. The two-year-old firm has a staff of 24 working on higher education, cultural arts and parks facilities in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming and Arizona.

Christie is project architect for the University of Wyoming Washakie Center renovation. He previously worked for Perkins & Will, New York, where he was project architect for the Midtown Hotel, a renovation and addition to an 18-story hotel in the Times Square Business Improvement District, and where he co-designed a cancer research lab for the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla.

Hiss has 15 years of experience with interior architecture, space planning, project management and the selection and documentation of furnishings and finishes. Since joining Opsis she has been working on projects at Pierce College, Boise State University, Southern Oregon University and Western Washington University.

Meisburger joined Opsis after working with firms in the Seattle area for 10 years. At SKB Architects, he served as project architect for the 100,000-square-foot Agilent/Heartstream corporate headquarters and projects for Eddie Bauer. At Callison, Meisburger served as project architect for the R.E.I. corporate masterplan/reorganization and interiors for the information technology department. At NBBJ, he worked on Key Arena, UW Medical Center Clinics and the Central Washington Hospital.

Ng has been working on an academic building at Boise State University West Campus and Portland Community College Sylvania Campus.

Brandon Sanchez has been working on the University of Wyoming Washakie Center renovation since joining Opsis. Prior to joining Opsis, Sanchez worked with Thomas Hacker and Associates.

Pat Sanchez joined Opsis as business manager. She has 20 years experience and has worked with architectural firms in San Francisco and Portland for 15 years.

Stern has been working on the student recreation center at Western Washington University, Murrow Hall at Washington State University and the Michael Curry Studio since joining Opsis.

Stoller has been serving as project manager for multiple projects at Clackamas Community College resulting from $48 million in voter-approved bond funding. He previously worked with Yost Grube Hall Architecture of Portland, and worked on high technology projects while with BML Architects of Portland.

Seneca Real Estate

Bob Wicklein was named a principal of Seneca Real Estate Group, a Seattle-based development management firm. Wicklein joined Seneca in 1999 and has been managing projects for the Pacific Northwest Aquarium, University of Puget Sound in Tacoma and Talaris Research Institute. Before Seneca he worked for 12 years in facility planning and capital project management for Boeing, including as a loaned executive on managing design and construction of Benaroya Hall. Wicklein holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois.

MulvannyG2 Architecture recently promoted Tito Almario and Michael Shook to senior project managers.

Almario manages the firm’s retail projects in Mexico, overseeing quality assurance, due diligence, scheduling and client relations. He has 19 years of experience and has a degree in architecture from National University of Manizalez, Colombia.

Shook is co-coordinator of the Midwest division for the firm’s largest retail client, specializing in quality assurance reviews and construction administration. He has 10 years of architecture experience and a bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Kleinfelder

Joel Carson has been appointed area manager for Kleinfelder's Seattle office. Carson has 12 years of experience in environmental and geotechnical engineering consulting, and has managed numerous environmental site investigations and remediation projects. He has particular expertise in bioremediation, bioventilation, soil and vapor extraction and groundwater pump-and-treat remedial technologies.

Roland D. Maynard has joined the Seattle office as a senior geotechnical engineer. He has 22 years of experience in geotechnical, materials, environmental and construction engineering. He provides managerial and technical support and markets Kleinfelder's services throughout the Bellevue and Seattle area. His project experience has included geotechnical investigations, design and construction monitoring for structures, bridges, roadways, airport facilities, sewer systems and pavement management systems.

Kleinfelder is an environmental and geotechnical engineering, construction management and materials testing firm with offices throughout western U.S.

Elliott Bay Design

Elliott Bay Design Group announced two promotions within the firm. Brian King has been named vice president of engineering and Douglas Wolff has been promoted to vice president of operations. King joined Elliott Bay Design Group in 1988 as the Seattle-based firm's chief marine engineer. As vice president, he will oversee and manage the firm's engineering and technical resources, ensuring superior quality and technical excellence.

Wolff joined Elliott Bay Design Group in 1992 as the firm's chief naval architect. With the added responsibility of vice president, he will oversee the firm's staff of professionals and support personnel. He will also head the firm's training program, which includes EBDG's in-house lecture series

Institute of Steel Construction

Charles J. Carter has been named chief structural engineer at the American Institute of Steel Construction, Inc. Carter, who joined AISC in 1991, has been instrumental in the development of many recent steel publications, including the third edition LRFD Manual of Steel Construction, AISC Code of Standard Practice and RCSC Specification for Structural Joints Using ASTM A325 or A490 Bolts. He also was responsible for the revitalization and reorganization of AISC’s continuing education programs. As chief structural engineer, Carter will be responsible for the day-to-day management of AISC’s Engineering and Research department.

Carter is on the board of directors of the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois and the Building Seismic Safety Council. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Research Council on Structural Connections and is a member of the ASCE/SEI Committee on Design of Steel Building Structures and the NCSEA Advocacy Committee.

AISC is a non-profit technical institute and trade association established in 1921 to serve the structural steel design community and construction industry in the United States.

Merritt+Pardini

Merritt+Pardini announced that David Brueggeman has joined the firm as project manager. Brueggeman is a licensed architect with 20 years of experience. He has a diverse project background including government, transportation, health care, aviation, marine, corporate, hospitality, education, justice, mixed-use, science and biotechnology, convention center, and historic preservation projects. His experience includes Benaroya, Washington State Convention and Trade Center, Sea-Tac Terminal Expansion and Microsoft Executive Conference Center. Brueggeman is working on the Greater Tacoma Convention Center.

WBGS

Erin McKenna recently joined WBGS of Eugene as a designer. Since arriving at WBGS she has worked on the Oregon Department of Forestry Tillamook Headquarters project. Her next assignment will be the Aurora/St. Vincent de Paul low-income housing project.

Sarah Anderson recently joined as a designer. She performing construction administration for two remodel projects, Newport City Hall and the city of Eugene Council Chamber. While at WBGS, she has also contributed to a diverse collection of projects including the Lane County Fairgrounds Convention Center Remodel, the Department of Corrections Dormitory Building and the Department of Corrections Dining Hall remodel.

Tricia Berg is performing construction administration for two remodel projects, Newport City Hall and the city of Eugene Council Chamber. While at WBGS, she has also contributed to a diverse collection of projects including the Lane County Fairgrounds Convention Center Remodel, the Department of Corrections Dormitory Building, the Department of Corrections Dining Hall remodel and the Springfield Public Schools Alternative Learning Center projects.
