Peter Somers to principal and
Robert Baxter and
Brad Cameron to senior associate. Somers is an existing buildings specialist and is managing the University of Washington Bed Tower expansion. He is a member of the earthquake engineering committee of the Structural Engineers Association of Washington. Baxter is a sports specialist and Building Information Modeling specialist. His recent projects include ShoWare Center in Kent and TCF Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota. He is working on the new 49ers Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. Cameron works out of the Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, office managing construction reviews for 80 buildings in the King Abdullah Financial District. He is active in the hotel/housing group, and worked on the City Creek Center in Salt Lake City. Seattle-based MKA is an international structural and civil engineering firm.
Design + Planning at Aecom promoted two people in Seattle and hired or transferred seven to its Seattle and Portland offices.
Jim Keany was promoted to associate principal. He is a senior ecologist and manages the Seattle environmental studio, FEMA environmental contracts, and is a part of the alternative energy initiative.
Nancy Bird was promoted to senior associate in Seattle. She specializes in management of urban planning projects and is project manager on the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Growth Coordination Plan.
Nicole Faghin is a senior waterfront specialist in Seattle, trained as a land use and environmental planner and attorney. Faghin has 20 years of management experience on waterfront projects and is developing design standards for Tacoma's Thea Foss Waterway and the Port of Los Angeles waterfront.
Tracey McKenzie was hired as a senior environmental planner in Seattle specializing in natural resource management, compliance, and planning and permitting for transportation projects, ports, airports, public agencies, utilities and industrial clients. She is working on environmental permitting for the Sammamish River Bridge.
Nancy Locke joined the firm's Seattle team from the Denver office. She is a senior associate specializing in master planning, urban and landscape design, and growth strategies for resorts, campuses, communities, parks and open space.
Geoff Appel joined the Seattle office as a planner specializing in permitting, master planning and infrastructure analysis. His focus is on sustainable design, and he is working on Navy Region Northwest, Thea Foss Waterway and Mountlake Terrace's shoreline management plan.
Philip Benenati moved from the firm's Alexandria, Va., office to Seattle. He is a landscape designer focusing on sustainable design and master planning, low impact development and stormwater management. He is working on Telluride Mountain Village, a sports facility and play field in Musqueam, B.C., and the U.S.-Mexico International San Ysidro Port of Entry.
Debbie Lematta joined the Seattle office as an associate in marketing. She has 18 years of A/E services experience, including work as a consultant to small and disadvantaged design firms.
Brian Wethington was hired as a senior landscape architect in the Portland office. He has 16 years of experience in urban design, parks and open space, and commercial, residential, and mixed-use developments, with a focus on sustainable site design. He is working on the U.S. Embassy in Vientiane, Laos, and the Portland Waterfront. Aecom has about 45,000 employees worldwide.
Charles Waugh joined the senior engineering staff of Wilson Engineering of Bellingham. Waugh has structural engineering experience with renovations, seismic rehabs and new construction. He was with Geiger Engineering. Alan Mooers obtained a land surveyor in training license for Washington. He has worked for Wilson since 2006 and is a surveyor in the land and hydrographic survey department.
Tacoma-based landscape architectural firm Bruce Dees & Associates promoted Brian D. Patnode and Sherryl A. Sales to associate. Patnode is a landscape architect with 15 years of experience. He has been with the firm for five years. Sales has 16 years as a business manager, and has been with the firm for six years.
Sarah Upsall, a geotechnical engineer at Hart Crowser, earned her professional engineer license. She is involved with the design of Federal Center South and has also evaluated bridges along interstates 5 and 405 and SR 520 for seismic retrofits. Hart Crowser is a 75-person, employee-owned environmental and engineering consulting firm headquartered in Seattle, with offices in Edmonds and Portland.

Jaklin M. Hunt joined HDJ Design Group in the Pasco branch. Hunt has 12 years of engineering experience in public and private projects. She has worked on subdivisions, site development, grading, street and utility layout, stormwater and utility systems, roadways and parking lots. HDJ offers civil engineering, land surveying, geotechnical engineering, construction inspection, landscape architecture and land use planning services. The firm also has an office in Vancouver.
CollinsWoerman hired architect
Douglas K. Grove as senior medical planner. Grove is a specialist in health care planning and design using Lean principles. He has 25 years of experience in facilities planning, project development and management, including 15 years in capital projects with institutions such as Virginia Mason Medical Center and Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound. Grove implemented Lean design at Virginia Mason. Seattle-based CollinsWoerman is an architecture, design and planning firm.
Noah Allen with BHC Consultants received his Washington engineering license. Allen has five years of experience in civil engineering on wastewater, stormwater and landfill projects for Lake Forest Park, Everett, Anchorage and King County. BHC is a Seattle-based engineering, planning and code compliance firm.
Sullivan Conard Architects hired
Michael Eliason as an architect. Previously he worked at Miller|Hayashi Architects as project manager and lead designer for the University of Washington's Hall Health Center remodel. He is events co-chair for Passive House Northwest, which promotes high performance buildings, and co-designed a sustainable middle school and vocation center in Guatemala with the Seattle chapter of Architects Without Borders. Seattle-based Sullivan Conard specializes in design of high-end residences.
