Spokane-based Sterling Savings Bank hired John Ausnes as vice president and business banking team leader for the South King County market. He has more than 30 years' experience and is a graduate of Pacific Coast Banking School and Western Washington University.
Dr. Leonard K. Peters, director of the Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, will receive the Oak Ridge Associated Universities Outstanding Leadership Award. The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated leadership and who have supported ORAU activities. It provides a grant to support a conference on atmospheric chemistry.
Bellevue-based Netupdate, a provider of Web-based point-of-sale technology for the mortgage industry, named Sue Ellingson director of marketing. Ellingson was vice president of loan production products for Interlinq Software.
Sunset Brands of Los Angeles, a subsidiary of Sunset Holdings International, has signed a letter of intent to acquire Vancouver-based Low Carb Creations, a producer of low carbohydrate food products. A new name and brand image will be announced after the transaction is complete, expected by June.

The University of Washington Business School has named Rueben Mayes assistant dean of external relations. Mayes will direct alumni relations and communications within the business school. The former running back for the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks began his career in development after retiring from professional football in 1994.
Jeff Running has been appointed corporate sales manager of the Mayflower Park Hotel, 405 Olive Way, Seattle. He will develop and maintain corporate accounts and oversee Canadian and Japanese markets.
The investment bank and bond underwriting company Seattle-Northwest Securities Corp. has hired municipal trading manager Robert H. Moore, III. Moore has experience in public finance banking, portfolio management, sales and municipal research.
Longview-based Cowlitz Bancorporation announced the retirement of Benjamin Namatinia. Namatinia has served as chairman since the company incorporated in 1991. Phill Rowley will serve as chairman until the annual shareholders meeting in May, when the shareholders will elect five directors for a one-year term and a chairman will be appointed.
Pacific Galleries, an estate auction house, has moved to the 70,000-square-foot former Postal Services building at 241 S. Lander Street. It will hold the first auction in the new space, with items such as a catalogued seashell collection, 17th century dummy board and an 8-foot Chihuly spire.
Hotel Monaco appointed Laura Pugh to director of sales. Pugh will manage the hotel sales team and create brand standards for global sales efforts. Pugh was director of individual travel for Hotel Monaco and Hotel Serrano, both in San Francisco.
Account manager Keri Shoemaker of the Seattle-based social marketing and communications firm PRR has joined the company's Arlington office. PRR clients in the Washington, D.C. area include the U.S. EPA and DOE's Energy Star Program.
