Kirkland's Wavelink Corp., a provider of mobile infrastructure management software, appointed Tim Zier chief financial officer. Zier has 30 years of senior management experience and will oversee Wavelink's financial strategy as the company works to expand. Zier was with Logitech and Advanced Gravis as well as two venture-backed emerging growth software companies.
P. Arley Harrel, a trial lawyer in the Seattle office of Williams, Kastner & Gibbs, was appointed to co-chair a products liability committee for a section of the American Bar Association. He will help set performance goals, as well as work on diversity initiatives and member attendance. Gabe Galanda was selected to participate in the association's business law ambassador program, which encourages participation of lawyers of color. Galanda is an associate practicing Indian Law in the company's Seattle office. Williams, Kastner & Gibbs has 90 lawyers in offices in Seattle, Tacoma and Portland.
Bellevue-headquartered Wireless Services named Lawrence J. Corvari vice president of operations and deployment. Corvari has 20 years of experience in telecommunications, and helped design a tracking service at McCaw Cellular Communications. Corvari was a co-founder of Chameleon Technology and vice president of engineering and operations for Xypoint Corp. Wireless Services develops data products for carriers.

Two top neurosurgeons were appointed to the Seattle Neuroscience Institute at Swedish Medical Center. Executive director Marc R. Mayberg chaired neurological surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. David W. Newell was acting chief of neurological surgery at Harborview Medical Center. They will lead a major expansion of Swedish's neuroscience program. Seattle Neuroscience Institute will be at Swedish/Providence campus on 17th and Jefferson. Swedish Medical Center is a nonprofit health provider with campuses on First Hill, the Providence campus and Ballard.
Bellevue-based SeaTab Software was named a finalist in the technology innovator category of the Stevie Awards for Women Entrepreneurs, a national competition that recognizes women small business owners. SeaTab Software's PivotLink integrates disparate operational, financial and sales data from enterprise systems. Stevie Award winners will be announced Friday at the Marriott Marquis in New York.
Seattle-based WhiteTie appointed Tonya Crosley-Paulette membership associate to work on administration. Crosley-Paulette is a recent graduate of the University of New Mexico. WhiteTie is a hospitality and philanthropic organization with 50 partners in Seattle, Portland, Hawaii, Whistler and Vancouver, B.C. Partners are hotels, resorts, arts organizations, restaurants, retail outlets and professional sports teams.
More than 650 people attended the recent Costco Scholarship Breakfast, which raised $2.2 million for minority students to attend Seattle University and the University of Washington. Since 2000, the Costco Scholarship Fund has raised $8 million and provided more than 650 scholarships.

Seattle law firm Lane Powell Spears Lubersky named Malcolm C. Lindquist a partner in its business department. Lindquist will keep offices in both Tacoma and Seattle. His business practice will focus on commercial finance, creditor rights, and mergers and acquisitions. Lane Powell offers legal services in business, employment and litigation. Lane Powell has 170 lawyers throughout Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and also has an office in London.
Mayor Greg Nickels appointed Edsonya Charles to the Seattle Municipal Court Position 2. If approved by the city council, Charles will start in January 2005, replacing Judge Theresa Doyle, who was elected to the King County Superior Court. Charles was a federal prosecutor and worked on economic fraud cases, and has also practiced land use law with Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson.
Seattle's Union Gospel Mission's new location is now open at 403 W. Meeker St. in downtown Kent. The retail store moved after Sound Transit purchased its retail facility in Rainier Valley for its light rail project. The Meeker St. Emporium sells new and used clothing, furniture, books and household items. Meeker St. Emporium is also a drop-off for donations.
Washington Banking Co., the holding company for Whidbey Island Bank, named Rick Shields chief financial officer of Washington Banking Co. Phyllis Hawkins will continue as a senior vice president and also be a controller for Whidbey Island Bank. Shields has 20 years of accounting experience in Pacific Northwest banks. He was a vice president at Northwest Farm Credit Services and spent nearly 10 years at Seattle-First National Bank. Washington Banking Co. is based in Oak Harbor and operates Whidbey Island Bank, a state-chartered commercial bank. Whidbey provides deposit, loan and investment services and has 18 branches in Island, Skagit, Whatcom and Snohomish counties in Northwestern Washington.
