Spokane-headquartered Itron's David G. Remington will retire as chief financial officer at the end of this year. Replacing him will be Steven M. Helmbrecht, a vice president and general manager. Remington will serve Itron as a part time financial and strategic consultant for two years. Itron is a technology provider for the global energy and water industries.
The National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors recently gave seven awards to Seattle's Democracy Portal and the Office of Cable Communication. Both are administered by the Department of Information Technology. Democracy Portal includes the Seattle Channel, carried to 160,000 homes, and its Web site, http://www.seattlechannel.org. The Office of Cable Communications negotiates with and regulates private cable communications providers in Seattle.
Charter Bank hired Wayde Merrill as assistant vice president and Bellevue office manager. Merrill has 17 years of banking experience and will manage client services personnel. Jim Myers will be product and application specialist. Myers was a banking specialist for Issaquah Bank. Charter is a community bank with offices in Kent, Seattle, Bellevue and Redmond.

Ken Isaacs was recently elected president of the Washington State Medical Association, which represents 9,000 physicians, residents, medical students and physician assistants. Isaacs is a neurologist in private practice in Walla Walla.
Samuel Miller joined Northwest Business Bank as senior vice president and senior relationship manager for business banking. Miller spent 18 years with Rainier Bank, Union Bank and Key Bank, where he was vice president. Northwest Business Bank is based in Seattle.
Mike Brennan joined the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board as an economic and workforce development specialist. He was the president of the Chamber of Commerce for Bellingham/Whatcom County, where he gained experience in marketing and tourism development.
Dexterra, a provider of mobile enterprise applications, named Phillip Swan chief operating officer. Swan will work on worldwide sales, operations and partner development. He was at Microsoft as vice president of device solutions sales. Dexterra is headquartered in Bothell and has offices in the United Kingdom and Australia.

OVP Venture Partners, a Pacific Northwest venture capital firm, appointed John Hull partner in the Portland office. Hull directed the Intel Communications Fund, which invests in companies developing networking and communications solutions. Hull will look at opportunities in mobility and networking, and collaborate on OVP's strategy in Asia. OVP has more than $500 million in capital under management.
Bellevue-headquartered Onyx Software Corp. named Jack Denault senior vice president. Eben Frankenberg, who formerly led sales and services teams, will leave after a 30-day transition period. Denault will direct sales and distribution teams. He will also lead global sales operations. Denault held senior sales and executive management positions in the U.S. and Europe, and led Avaya's executive relationship programs. Onyx provides ways to share critical information among employees, customers and partners through Web-based portals.
E. Peter Greenberg will be the chair the University of Washington School of Medicine's Department of Microbiology starting in January 2005. Greenberg's work has led to new approaches to tame bacteria such as those that persist in lungs of people with the genetic disease cystic fibrosis.
